Set Basic Position Of Camshafts - AR05.20-P-6020MSA

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing engine oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Move camshafts to basic position. IMPORTANTWIS Service Media 
With adjustment of the high-pressure pump.
IMPORTANTWIS Service Media 
Without adjustment of the high-pressure pump.

2 Remove rear cover from cylinder head.   AR01.30-P-5702MSA
3 Remove the camshaft positioner of the intake camshaft.   AR05.20-P-7206MSA 
4 Remove camshaft positioner of exhaust camshaft.   AR05.20-P-7207MSA 
  Adjust     
5 Remove locating tool. SPECIAL TOOL Locating tool Fig 2
6 Turn intake and exhaust camshafts until marking (M) on pulse wheels is visible. SPECIAL TOOL Socket wrench bit Fig 3
7 Install locating tool. IMPORTANT The SPECIAL TOOL locating tool must be inserted in the service openings while disassembled.
IMPORTANT If necessary, rotate camshafts further using a SPECIAL TOOL socket wrench socket until SPECIAL TOOL locating tool can be inserted.

INSTALLING Install     
8 Install camshaft positioner of exhaust camshaft.   AR05.20-P-7207MSA 
9 Install the camshaft positioner for the intake camshaft.   AR05.20-P-7206MSA 
10 Remove locating pin of crankshaft lock. SPECIAL TOOL Adjustment tool Fig 1
11 Remove locating tool. SPECIAL TOOL Locating tool Fig 2
12 Remove locking pins of camshaft positioners. SPECIAL TOOL Assembly tool Fig 4
13 Turn engine in the direction of engine rotation by two revolutions and set the cylinder 1 piston to ignition TDC. SPECIAL TOOL Adjustment tool Fig 1

14 Perform visual check through sensor openings at camshaft housing. The marking (M) on the pulse wheels must be visible. IMPORTANT If the marking (M) is not visible, the piston of cylinder 1 is not at ignition TDC.  
15 Install locating pin of crankshaft lock. SPECIAL TOOL Adjustment tool Fig 1
INSPECT Check     
16 Install locating tool. IMPORTANT The SPECIAL TOOL locating tool must be inserted in the service openings in a disassembled manner.

If locating tool can not be inserted:

Repeat adjustment.

17 Remove locating tool. SPECIAL TOOL Locating tool Fig 2
18 Install the service covers (61) of the intake and exhaust camshafts. NOTES
Do not damage the fuel high-pressure line when tightening the screws (60a, 60b). Leaks can occur otherwise.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, service cover to camshaft housing *BA05.20-P-1003-04MRT 
19 Install rear cover on cylinder head.   AR01.30-P-5702MSA
20 Install Hall sensor of exhaust camshaft.   AR15.12-P-2147MSA
21 Install Hall sensor of intake camshaft. IMPORTANT Only install upper engine cover after the leak test. AR15.12-P-2146MSA
22 Remove retaining lock for crankshaft. IMPORTANT Do not install center and front lower engine compartment lining until after leak test. AR03.30-P-5001MSA
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
23 Carry out engine test run and check engine for proper leaktightness and leaktightness.    
24 Install the center and front lower engine compartment paneling. Engine 256.9 in model 213, 238 AR61.20-P-1105LWE
    Engine 256.9 in model 290 AR61.20-P-1105FRX
    Engine 256.9 in model 257 AR61.20-P-1105FR
25 Install upper engine cover.   AR01.10-P-2405MSA
