	Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.	Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.	AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

	Remove/install
1	Release twelve-point collar nut of rear axle shaft	MODEL 117, 156, 176, 246 with CODE M005 (4MATIC) Secure twelve-point collar nut.
		Collar nut, rear axle shaft to wheel bearing	*BA35.30-P-1001-01M
2	Secure vehicle on vehicle lift		AR00.60-P-0100CW
3	Detach appropriate rear wheel
			AP40.10-P-4050AK
4	Unbolt twelve-point collar nut of rear axle shaft	MODEL 117, 156, 176, 246 with CODE M005 (4MATIC) Replace twelve-point collar nut. Clean thread of rear axle shaft.
5	Remove brake disk		AR42.10-P-0220NKB
6	Unclip cover (17) from spring control arm (1) and remove	Check for correct seating of the cover (17).
7	Remove rear axle spring		AR32.20-P-0230NKB
8	Detach left rear axle rpm sensor (L6/3) or right rear axle rpm sensor (L6/4) and place to one side	Bolt, rpm sensor to rear axle shaft flange	*BA42.30-P-1001-02F
9	Detach link rod of torsion bar (3) from wheel carrier (2)		AR32.20-P-0315NKB
		A rag (arrow) must be placed between torsion bar (3) and tie rod (4). Otherwise, the protective coating or the cover for the tie rod (4) will be damaged.
11	Detach trailing arm from wheel carrier (2)		AR35.20-P-0100NKB
12	Detach camber strut from wheel carrier (2)		AR35.20-P-0110NKB
13	Detach tie rod (4) from wheel carrier (2)		AR35.20-P-0109NKB
14	Detach wheel carrier (2) from spring control arm (1) and remove wheel carrier (2)	MODEL 117, 156, 176, 246 with CODE M005 (4MATIC) Do not knock out firmly seated rear axle shaft out of rear axle shaft flange. Otherwise the angular contact ball bearing will be damaged. MODEL 117, 176, 246 with CODE M005 (4MATIC) Ensure correct seating of rear axle shaft in rear axle shaft flange.
		Self-locking nut, spring control arm to wheel carrier If necessary: ↓	*BA35.20-P-1002-01D
		Detach rear axle shaft flange with angular contact ball bearing (5) and anchor plate (6) from wheel carrier (2)	AR35.20-P-0130NKB
15	Install in the reverse order
