Remove/Install Camshaft Positioner - AR05.20-P-7204MRI

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing engine oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove right charge air line, remove charge air cooler with connected lines, and fasten so that they are free of tension. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only install right charge air line and charge air cooler after checking basic position of camshafts (4).
Only install upper engine cover after the leak test.

2 Rotate engine at crankshaft center bolt in direction of engine rotation to ignition TDC on cylinder 1. IMPORTANT The TDC marking on the belt pulley must be aligned with the positioning edge on the timing case cover.  
3 Remove cylinder head cover.   AR01.20-P-5014MRI
4 Install hold-down tool (5) with brackets (6). SPECIAL TOOL Holding device Fig 2
5 Remove the chain tensioner.   AR05.10-P-7800MRI 
6 Remove control valve (2) of the corresponding camshaft positioner (1).

REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Specified engine oils (service) - Overview INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Wet the thread and bolt head contact surface of the control valve (2) with engine oil.
Tighten control valve (2) evenly without discontinuity using the specified torque.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Control valve of pulse wheel/camshaft positioner to camshaft *BA05.20-P-1002-05A 
    SPECIAL TOOL Socket wrench bit Fig 3
7 Lift off timing chain (3) from the corresponding camshaft positioner (1) and remove corresponding camshaft positioner (1).    
8 Install in the reverse order.    
9 Turn engine at center bolt of crankshaft x 2 in direction of engine rotation to ignition TDC at cylinder 1. IMPORTANT The TDC marking on the belt pulley must be aligned with the positioning edge on the timing case cover.  
10 Check basic position of camshafts (4).   AR05.20-P-6010MRI 
11 Attach charge air cooler and install the right charge air line.   AR09.41-P-6817MRI
WARNING Risk of burn injuries  , suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning  caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the hazard area. AS49.00-Z-0001-01A
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
12 Perform engine test run; in this connection check engine for leak tightness and proper operation.    
13 Install upper engine cover.   AR01.10-P-2405MRI
