Remove/Install Cylinder Head Cover - AR01.20-P-5014MRI

MODIFICATION NOTES

06.05.2021 Check camshafts and camshaft bearing points in cylinder head cover (1) and the cylinder head for galling and scoring. Operation steps 19.

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the overpressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Drain off coolant. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only install lower engine compartment lining after leak test. AR20.00-P-1142MRI
2 Remove the rail with fuel injectors (Y76/1, Y76/2, Y76/3, Y76/4). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not install upper engine cover until after the leak test. AR07.03-P-1052MRI
3 Remove fuel high-pressure pump.   AR07.02-P-1028MRI
4 Remove front cap from cylinder head (2).   AR01.30-P-5700MRI
5 Remove the engine suspension lug (6) and attach it to the vehicle so that it is free of tension. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, lifting eye to cylinder head *BA01.30-P-1005-01BA 
6 Remove the ignition coils (T1/1 to T1/4).   AR15.12-P-2003MRI
7 Remove bleed line (5) from cylinder head cover (1), unclip from bracket (4) and place to one side. Engine 264 in model 205
SPECIAL TOOL Hose clamp pliers

8 Remove the vacuum pump.   AR43.05-P-1320MRI
9 Remove cap (7). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace cap (7).  
10 Remove the engine oil filler neck from cylinder head cover (1) and place to one side.   AR01.20-P-0022MRI 
11 Remove bracket (4). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, right engine cover holder to cylinder head cover *BA01.20-P-1009-03B 
12 Loosen screws of cylinder head cover (1) in the order opposite from the tightening procedure and remove. Bolt tightening procedure for cylinder head cover AR01.20-P-5014-03MRH 
Notice  Notes on threaded connections fastened using a tightening angle-based tightening process INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace screw/bolts. Observe the tightening procedure for cylinder head cover (1). AH00.00-P-0020-01A
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, cylinder head cover to cylinder head *BA01.20-P-1001-03B 
13 Remove cylinder head cover (1) from cylinder head.

  Notes on sealant path for cylinder head cover NOTES
To detach, do not hammer in a tool between cylinder head cover (1) and cylinder head. Sealing surfaces will otherwise be damaged.
IMPORTANT Exchange both cylinder head cover (1) and cylinder head at the same time because the two component parts form a single unit.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Apply sealant to cylinder head cover (1).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace sealing ring.

    SPECIAL TOOL Application gun Fig 3
14 Remove exhaust camshaft Hall sensor (B6/16). When replacing the cylinder head cover (1). AR07.04-P-0057MRI
15 Remove intake camshaft Hall sensor (B6/15). When replacing the cylinder head cover (1). AR07.04-P-0056MRI
16 Remove slide rail (3). When replacing the cylinder head cover (1). AR05.10-P-8421MRI
17 Unscrew ball head (8). When replacing the cylinder head cover (1).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Ball head, engine cover to cylinder head cover/vacuum pump
*BA01.20-P-1010-03B 
INSPECT Check     
18 Check sealing surface on cylinder head cover (1) and cylinder head for damage. If damage is present:
↓
replace cylinder head cover (1) and cylinder head.

19 Check camshafts and camshaft bearing points in cylinder head cover (1) and the cylinder head for galling and scoring.    
  General information on checking camshafts and bearing points of camshafts IMPORTANT Cylinder head cover (1) and cylinder head form a unit and can thus only be replaced together.
IMPORTANT The cylinder head can also be replaced without replacing the camshaft.
If there are problems,

Replace camshafts and/or cylinder head cover (1) together with cylinder head.

    Remove/install cylinder head AR01.30-P-5800MRI
    Remove/install camshafts AR05.20-P-6992MRI
CLEAN Clean     
20 Clean sealing surface of the cylinder head cover (1) and cylinder head. NOTES
Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper.
Sealing surfaces will otherwise be damaged.

    Loctite 7200 *BR00.45-Z-1038-04A 
    Loctite 7063 (400 ml) cleaning spray *BR00.45-Z-1046-04A 
21 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
22 Check and correct engine oil level.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP18.00-P-1812MKI
WARNING Risk of burn injuries  , suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning  caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the danger zone. AS49.00-Z-0001-01A
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
23 Perform engine test run. While doing so, check engine for proper operation and leak tightness.
