Retrofit Trailer Hitch With Electric Release - AN31.10-P-8082MFC

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Print out "Trailer hitch, certificate" document. For non-EU countries.
IMPORTANT The "Trailer hitch, certificate"  document must be submitted on final inspection.

2 Print out the detailed installation instructions and hand them over to the customer. For do-it-yourself installation of trailer hitch by the customer.  
3 Remove instrument panel. Model 118.3## 2#  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR68.10-P-1000MFA
4 Remove side trim from rear passenger compartment on right.    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   IMPORTANT The rear bench seat remains in the vehicle. AR68.30-P-4780MFV
5 Remove trim from trunk lid.    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR68.30-P-8151MFV
6 Release vehicle interior fuse and relay module (F152/4).    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR54.15-P-1312MFA
7 Check in the XENTRY Portal parts information in DG 99 whether the vehicle interior fuse and relay module, installed according to the vehicle equipment, is compatible with the retrofitting of the trailer hitch. If the vehicle interior fuse and relay module is not compatible,
↓
replace vehicle interior fuse and relay module.		  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Remove/install fuse box in vehicle interior on front passenger side
IMPORTANT The removed vehicle interior fuse and relay module is no longer required.		 AR54.15-P-1312MFA
8 In XENTRY Portal Parts Information in DG 99, check whether the spare wheel well lining installed in accordance with the vehicle equipment is compatible with the retrofitting of the trailer hitch. If the spare wheel well lining is not compatible,

replace spare wheel well lining.
IMPORTANT The removed spare wheel well lining is no longer required.		  
9 In XENTRY Portal Parts Information in the DG 99, check whether the multifunction box catch installed in accordance with the vehicle equipment is compatible with the retrofitting of the trailer hitch. If the multifunction box catch is not compatible,

replace multifunction box catch.
IMPORTANT The removed multifunction box catch is no longer required.		  
10 Check in XENTRY PORTAL parts information in DG 99 whether the electric fan, installed according to the vehicle equipment, is compatible with the retrofitting of the trailer hitch. If the electric fan is not compatible,
↓
replace electric fan.

11 In XENTRY Parts Information in DG 99, check whether the fan unit wiring harness installed in accordance with the vehicle equipment can be used for retrofitting the trailer hitch.    
12 Remove air filter housing. Model 118.3 with engine 282
If the wiring harness for the fan unit has be replaced.		  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR09.10-P-1150MFD
13 Remove battery. Model 118.3 with engine 282
If the wiring harness for the fan unit has be replaced.		  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Model 118.3 with engine 282 except code B01 (48V technology) AR54.10-P-0005MFA
14 Remove fuse and relay module cover. Model 118.3 with engine 282
If the wiring harness for the fan unit has be replaced.		  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   IMPORTANT Do not release electric lines. Do not remove front pre-fuse box. AR54.15-P-1330MFA
INSTALLING Install     
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes. Risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling fumes when working with heat-shrinkable tubing. Work in well ventilated rooms only. Wear safety glasses with side protection and protective gloves. AS00.19-Z-0001-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling fumes during soldering. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses. Ensure that the work area is adequately ventilated. Secure power supply cables. Avoid sources of fire in working area. AS00.19-Z-0002-01A
15 Install fan unit wiring harness. Model 118.3 with engine 282
If the wiring harness for the fan unit has be replaced.

18 Retrofit power supply wiring harness for fuse and relay module.   AN31.19-P-0010-07MFC 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, positive line to fuse and relay module in vehicle interior *BA54.15-P-1003-01M 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, positive line to rear fuse and relay module (F152/2) *BA54.15-P-1004-01M 
REMOVING Remove     
19 Remove rear bumper.    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   IMPORTANT The factory-installed rear underfloor paneling is no longer required. It is replaced by underbody paneling with a cutout for the ball head of the trailer hitch. AR88.20-P-2200MFA
20 Release black 8-pin plug (6.1) and black 4-pin plug (6.3) at crossmember (6).    
21 Release electrical wiring harness (6.2) from crossmember (6).    
22 Remove crossmember (6). IMPORTANT The crossmember (6) is no longer required.  
INSTALLING Install     
23 Retrofit crossmember (1) and longitudinal member reinforcement (2, 3).   AN31.11-P-8080-05MFC 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt/nut, trailer hitch to longitudinal member reinforcement *BA31.11-P-1001-01K 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, longitudinal member reinforcement for trailer hitch to body *BA31.11-P-1002-01K 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, longitudinal member reinforcement for trailer hitch to body *BA31.11-P-1003-01K 
24 Retrofit trailer socket wiring harness.   AN31.19-P-8100-10MFC 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Trailer hitch ground point *BA00.19-P-1010-02E 
25 Install rear switch module holder into rear bumper. Model 118.3 with code 772 (AMG styling - front spoiler, rocker panels) except code 871 (Sensor system for trunk lid opening/closing) except code 889 (KEYLESS-GO) AN31.11-P-8080-01MFD 
26 Retrofit release switch.   AN31.19-P-8080-07MFV 
27 Install new exhaust gas recirculation line. Model 118.3 with engine 654
IMPORTANT Replace existing exhaust gas recirculation line with a new exhaust gas recirculation line with insulation.		  
28 Install remaining parts. IMPORTANT Connect release switch.  
  Update Vehicle Documentation (VeDoc)     
29 Enter special equipment into on-line vehicle data card. IMPORTANTCode 550 (Trailer hitch)   
30 Attach "Trailer hitch retrofitted as per AN31.10-P-8082MFC" note under field organization texts to DG 14, DG 31, DG 50, DG 54 and DG 88.    
31 Connect diagnostic system and select vehicle using vehicle identification number (VIN).    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06MFA
32 Perform variant coding using the software calibration number (SCN). IMPORTANTElectronic ignition lock control unit (N73) Instrument cluster control unit (N133/1) Head unit (A26/17) 
Signal acquisition and actuation module (N10) 
IMPORTANT Model 118.3 with code 218 (Reversing camera), model 118.3 with code 501 (360° camera)
Parking system control unit (N62) 		  
33 Disconnect diagnostic system.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06MFA
INSPECT Check     
34 Carry out function check of lighting signals on trailer hitch mains outlet.   AN31.19-P-8100-06MFA 
35 Check whether ball neck folds in and out properly. IMPORTANT See Owner's Manual.
