Remove/Install Upper Timing Case Cover - AR01.40-P-8001MFC

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts. Deburr repair panels. AS00.00-Z-0017-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of Engine oil. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing Engine oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill Engine oil into beverage containers.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).    
2 Remove right Engine mount.   AR22.10-P-1102MFD
3 Release and disconnect electrical connections on intake camshaft solenoid (Y49/1) and exhaust camshaft solenoid (Y49/2).    
4 Unclip the electrical wiring harness along the upper timing case cover (1) on the cylinder head cover (3).    
5 Remove screws (1s). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Observe tightening procedure. AR01.40-P-0122-01MFC 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, timing case cover to crankcase *BA01.40-P-1001-01K 
6 Carefully loosen the upper timing case cover (1) at the press-off points and remove towards the front.   AH01.30-P-1000-02MR 
  Notes on sealant path for front cover to cylinder head xxx INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Apply sealant to the upper timing case cover (1).
Sealant, Loctite 5970, 50 ml

    SPECIAL TOOL Application gun Fig 1
7 Remove intake camshaft solenoid (Y49/1) and exhaust camshaft solenoid (Y49/2) from upper timing case cover (1). If the upper timing case cover (1) is replaced.
Remove the solenoid for the intake camshaft.

    Remove the solenoid for the exhaust camshaft. AR05.20-P-7306MFC
    SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 2
CLEAN Clean     
8 Clean sealing surfaces at cylinder head, cylinder head cover (3), and upper timing case cover (1).   AR01.00-P-0050-01A 
    NOTES Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper.
The sealing surfaces can be damaged otherwise.
Loctite 7200
*BR00.45-Z-1038-04A 
    Loctite 7063 (400 ml) cleaning spray *BR00.45-Z-1046-04A 
9 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
10 Check Engine oil level and correct if necessary.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   NOTES Vehicle must be horizontal and standing on its wheels.
Measurement errors occur otherwise.
NOTES Never pour in Engine oil to above the maximum value.
Engine damage will occur otherwise.

WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when Engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the Engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
WARNING Risk of burn injuries  , suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning  caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the danger zone. AS49.00-Z-0001-01A
11 Perform Engine test run. While doing so, check Engine for proper operation and leak tightness.
