Remove/Install Rear Axle Steering Actuator - AR46.80-P-0012RG

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m).    
2 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift.   AR00.60-P-0100RG
3 Detach fender liner in rear fender far enough until nuts (1) are accessible. Model 190 with code 201 (Rear axle steering)

4 Remove nuts (1).    
5 Detach upper holder (2) far enough until electrical connectors (3) are accessible. NOTES
Do not tension or kink the lines.
Otherwise the wiring harness will be damaged.
 
6 Release and disconnect electrical connectors (3).    
7 Secure upper holder (2) to vehicle free of tension. NOTES
Do not tension or kink the lines.
Otherwise the wiring harness will be damaged.
 
8 Remove screw (4) from lower holder of electrical wiring harness.    
9 Guide electrical wiring harness of rear axle steering actuator (5) in downward direction out of vehicle. NOTES
Do not tension or kink the lines.
Otherwise the wiring harness will be damaged.
 
10 Remove nut (6) from wheel carrier.    
11 Remove rear axle steering actuator (5) from wheel carrier.    
12 Remove nut (7). IMPORTANT The rear axle steering actuator (5) must be secured to prevent it from dropping down.  
13 Remove rear axle steering actuator (5).    
INSTALLING Install     
14 Attach rear axle steering actuator (5) and tighten nuts (6, 7) slightly by hand. IMPORTANT Replace nuts and screws of suspension components.  
15 Guide in electrical wiring harness from rear axle steering actuator (5) along original routing and secure free of tension. NOTES
Do not tension or kink the lines.
Otherwise the wiring harness will be damaged.
 
    IMPORTANT Replace mounting materials if necessary.  
16 Attach lower holder of electrical wiring harness and tighten screw (4). NOTES
Do not tension or kink the lines.
Ensure that the wiring harness is seated correctly in the lower holder.
Otherwise the wiring harness will be damaged.
 
17 Connect electrical connectors (3).    
18 Attach upper holder (2) of electrical wiring harness and tighten nuts (1). NOTES
Do not tension or kink the lines.
Otherwise the wiring harness will be damaged.
 
19 Raise wheel carrier using telescopic jack and transmission plate until rear axle shaft is roughly horizontal.

While working on the rear axle, take care to ensure that the surfaces of all aluminum components do not receive any scratches, cracks or notches.
The elastomer bearings must NOT be under tension in the ready-to-drive condition.
Otherwise the service life of the of the parts will be reduced.

20 Tighten nut (7). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, tie rod to wheel carrier *BA35.20-P-1002-04J 
21 Tighten nut (6) on wheel carrier. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking nut, tie rod to wheel carrier *BA35.20-P-1001-04J 
22 Lower telescopic jack with transmission plate.

23 Install fender liner in rear fender.   AR88.10-P-1400RG

24 Perform wheel alignment measurement.   AR40.20-P-0200RQ
