Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

7 Pivot left sun visor (1) and right sun visor (2) to side and unscrew bolts (3) from corresponding brackets (4).    
8 Remove left sun visor (1) and right sun visor (2) IMPORTANT Disconnect electrical connectors.  
9 Remove bearing (5) from left sun visor (1) and right sun visor (2) IMPORTANT The bolt is located behind the cover (6), which can be folded downward.  
10 Remove overhead control panel control unit (N70)   AR82.20-P-1000GM
11 Remove rearview mirror (7)   AR68.40-P-0001GM 
12 Detach electrical connector (14) at rain sensor (B38)    
13 Remove inside rearview mirror bracket (12) IMPORTANT Remove bolts (13).  
14 Remove hands-free system microphone (B25) from headliner (21) IMPORTANT Disconnect electric connector.

15 Remove paneling on A-pillar. IMPORTANT Remove left A-pillar paneling (8) and right A-pillar paneling (9). AR68.30-P-4050H 
16 Remove paneling on B-pillar Model 463.243/245/246/248/249/323/333 up to 31.5.04 wheelbase of 2850 mm AR68.30-P-4700GN

17 Remove rear paneling from roof frame.   AR68.30-P-4470GR 
18 Remove belt guide (24) on center seat belt from headliner (21). IMPORTANT Only on model 463.243/245/246/248/249/323/333 as of 1.06.04,

19 Remove grab handles (10) IMPORTANT Slide back covers (11) and unscrew bolts.  
20 Remove cargo retaining net holder (22) IMPORTANT Remove bolt (23).  
21 Remove rear seat reading lights   AR82.20-P-1120GR
22 Remove interior protection transmitter and receiver (A26/5) MPECIAL TOOL Figure
23 Remove chrome molding (15) IMPORTANT Only with code (D27) Electric tilting/sliding roof
IMPORTANT The chrome molding (15) is fastened with six bolts (16).
 
24 Unscrew bolts (17) from both guide rails (18) IMPORTANT Only with code (D27) Electric tilting/sliding roof  
25 Remove guide rails (18) and coverings below IMPORTANT Only with code (D27) Electric tilting/sliding roof  
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Coat left and right slide shoes with lubricant paste. *BR00.45-Z-1004-06A 
26 Carefully separate headliner (21) from roof skin at the gluing points IMPORTANT Only with code (D27) Electric tilting/sliding roof  
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Remove adhesive residues and re-glue headliner (21) to specified points. *BR00.45-Z-1002-02A 
27 Unhook headliner (21) from tilting/sliding roof opening IMPORTANT Only with code (D27) Electric tilting/sliding roof
IMPORTANT To do this, detach the sheet metal clips (19).
 
28 Remove bolts (20) from headliner (21)    
29 Separate velcro connections (arrows) between roof panel and headliner (21). IMPORTANT Secure headliner (21) against falling down with aid of second person  
30 Lower headliner (21) on right and remove diagonally through rear door opening    
31 Install in the reverse order    
32 Deactivate service mode in Telematic Alarm Identification on Demand IMPORTANT Only on model 463.243/244/245/250/309/322/323/332/333 with code (ET2) Tele-Aid - car telephone emergency call system, 463.247/248/254/270 up to 1.4.07 with code (ET2) Tele-Aid - car telephone emergency call system AR82.95-P-0005-03GR

33 Read out fault memory and erase IMPORTANT STAR DIAGNOSIS
Stored faults which may be caused by removed cables or by a simulation, must be processed and erased in the fault memories after completing the work.

34 Check all removed components for proper function
