Remove/install balance shaft - AR03.20-P-1000SX

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of death  when touching components on vehicles with high-voltage on-board electrical system Do not touch components and open lines of the high-voltage on-board electrical system.
Persons who are carriers of electronic implants (e.g. cardiac pacemakers), must not  carry out any work on high-voltage on-board electrical systems.

1 Perform disable for the high-voltage on-board electrical system Model 221.095/195
IMPORTANT After completing the work, attach initial startup event log together with the disconnection log to the vehicle file.

3 Unfasten center bolt on crankshaft vibration damper   AR03.30-P-1600SX

5 Detach engine from front axle carrier Vehicles without 4MATIC AR01.10-P-2510SX

7 Mount engine onto assembly stand    
8 Remove oil pan   AR01.45-P-7500SY
9.1 Remove flywheel/drive plate Except model 221.095/195 AR03.30-P-8001SX 
9.2 Remove integrated starter alternator Model 221.095/195 AR15.40-P-0003SXH
10.1 Remove end cover with crankshaft radial sealing ring Except model 221.095/195
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace end cover with crankshaft radial sealing ring.

10.2 Remove end cover Model 221.095/195 AR01.40-P-8913SXH
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace the rear crankshaft radial sealing ring after the end cover has been installed. AR03.20-P-3063SXH 
11 Remove timing case cover NOTES Do not damage cylinder head gaskets. Engine damage can occur otherwise. AR01.40-P-8000SX
12 Check basic position of camshafts   AR05.20-P-6010-01VB
13 Pull tensioning rail Screw/bolts out of right cylinder head and remove tensioning rail downwards   AR01.30-P-5800-04V

14 Pull out slide rail pins (3) from left cylinder head   AR01.30-P-5800-04V

15 Detach balance weight (4) at the rear of engine from the balance shaft (5) IMPORTANT Fix correctional weight (4) to the cylinder crankcase using a pin or punch.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT The balance weight (4) has an anti-twist lock and only fits onto the balance shaft (5) in one position only.
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA03.20-P-1002-02A 
16 Press timing chain on balance shaft (5) downward and pull balance shaft (5) forwards and out of the crankcase INSTALLATION IMPORTANT At a 40° crank angle after ignition TDC the fitted pin (8) is aligned with marking (9) on the crankcase and the notch (6) on the front correctional weight must be aligned with marking (7).  
17 Install in the reverse order    
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

18 Carry out an engine test run and check engine for leaks
