REMOVING Remove     
1 Move driver seat and front passenger seat towards rear    
2 Remove audio component    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR82.60-P-7502CW 
    IMPORTANT The removed audio component is no longer required.  
3 Remove 5-inch Audio/COMAND display (A40/8)    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR82.60-P-7722CY 
    IMPORTANT The 5-inch Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) is no longer required.  
4 Remove instrument cluster (A1) MODEL 204.9 with CODE 510 (Audio 20 with CD changer) or with CODE 523 MB Audio 20 radio) or without CODE 442 (Comfort multifunction steering wheel)  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR54.30-P-6015CY
5 Remove airbag unit (1) from steering wheel MODEL 204.9 without CODE 442 (Comfort multifunction steering wheel)  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR91.60-P-0660CW
    IMPORTANT The airbag unit with 4 buttons is no longer required.  
6 Remove door sill on driver side    
7 Remove paneling at bottom of right A-pillar    
8 Remove accelerator pedal    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR30.12-P-1321CW
9 Remove two front screws/bolts at driver seat, loosen two rear screws/bolts at driver seat and remove driver-side floor covering TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, seat to vehicle floor *BA91.10-P-1002-01Q 
10 Remove left cover below dashboard    
INSTALLING Install     
11 Retrofit antenna for global positioning system (GPS) MODEL 204.9 with CODE 523 (MB Audio 20 radio) or with CODE 510 (Audio 20 with CD changer)

12 Retrofit wiring harness of COMAND controller unit (A40/3)   AN82.61-P-0001-01CY
SPECIAL TOOL Wiring harness repair kit Fig 2
13 Retrofit additional fan of COMAND controller unit (A40/3)   AN82.85-P-0005CW 
14 Install 7-inch Audio/COMAND display (A40/8)    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR82.60-P-7722CY 
15 Install COMAND controller unit (A40/3)    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR82.60-P-7502CW 
16 Install instrument cluster (A1) with 4.5-inch display MODEL 204.9 with CODE 510 (Audio 20 with CD changer) or with CODE 523 (MB Audio 20 radio) or without CODE 442 (Comfort multifunction steering wheel)  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR54.30-P-6015CY
    IMPORTANT In vehicles without 4.5-inch display, this must be replaced with a new instrument cluster (A1) with 4.5-inch display.  
17 Install airbag unit (1) with 12 buttons at steering wheel MODEL 204.9 without CODE 442 (Comfort multifunction steering wheel)  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR91.60-P-0660CW
18 Assemble vehicle    
19 Enter special equipment in online vehicle data card via vehicle documentation system (VeDoc) IMPORTANTDelete: 
  • CODE 511 (Audio 50 APS with DVD changer) or
  • CODE 523 (MB Audio 20 radio) or
  • CODE 525 (MB Audio 50 APS radio) or
  • CODE 510 (Audio 20 radio with CD changer)

Add: 
  • CODE 527 (COMAND with APS navigation system)
 
20 Document retrofitted equipment in VeDoc IMPORTANT Attach note "COMAND with APS navigation system retrofitted as per AN82.85-P-0003CY " under field organization texts to design group 82 and where applicable 46 and 54.  
21 Connect Star Diagnosis and select vehicle via the vehicle identification number (VIN)    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04A
22 Perform variant coding with XENTRY using the software calibration number (SCN) IMPORTANT Listed control units must be SCN coded using the Diagnosis Assistance System:
  • "Instrument cluster (A1)"
  • "COMAND controller unit (A40/3)"
 
23 Disconnect Star Diagnosis    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04A
24 Perform function test IMPORTANT See operator's manual for COMAND controller unit (A40/3).
