Preliminary remarks
The following description specifies the antenna systems for
- MB Audio 20 radio, code 523,
- MB Audio 50 APS radio, code 525,
- COMAND APS (with navigation), code 527,
- Preinstallation for portable CTEL UHI system, code 386 and
- portable CTEL UHI system, code 388
In addition, the HF signal for the Keyless Go control unit (N69/5) (authorization signal) (Keyless Go, code 889) and the HF signal for radio remote central locking (RRCL [FZV]) are explained.
General information
The various antennas are designed according to their special reception and transmission ranges. There are active and passive antennas. The antennas can be designed as transmission, reception or as transmission/reception antennas. The antennas transmit or receive voice information by converting electromagnetic radio waves into electric voltage and vice versa.
Active antennas
Active antennas are supplied with power and have an integrated amplifier. Voltage supply is possible using separate lines or using coaxial lines (phantom supply), over which the actual signals are transferred simultaneously. In this case, no separate leads are required for the power supply. The following active antennas are installed:
- GPS antenna (A2/93a6),
- the Bluetooth antenna and
- the telephone antenna (A2/93a3).
The antennas are integrated into the roof antenna module.
Passive antennas
Passive antennas do not require a power supply.
The following passive antennas are installed:
- FM antennas in the rear window (FM2 and FM3) and
- FM/AM/RRCL antenna (A2/93a1), integrated into the roof antenna module.
Transmission/reception antennas
The transmission/reception antennas are
- the telephone antenna and
- the Bluetooth antenna.
Reception antennas
Receive antennas are
- the FM antennas (FM2 and FM3) in the rear window,
- the GPS antenna and
- FM/AM/RRCL [FZV] antenna in roof antenna module.
The Keyless Go antenna system, code 889, is described in separate documentation. The authorization signal for Keyless Go is received by the FM/AM/RRCL antenna.
Description, block diagram of antenna system
The signals (FM1, AM, RRCL [FZV]) received by the FM/AM/RRCL [FZV] antenna and the authorization signal for the Keyless Go function are filtered and amplified in the antenna amplifier of the roof antenna module.
The antenna signals FM2 and FM3 rear window are taken from the rear window antenna FM amplifier, amplified and transferred to the roof antenna module. A diversity processor in the roof antenna module selects the strongest signal from the FM antenna signals and transfers it to the COMAND operating, display and control unit.
The AM signal is also fed to COMAND operating, display and control unit.
The RRCL [FZV] signal is demodulated in the roof antenna module and transmitted to the rear SAM control unit for further processing via the radio antenna interference suppression filter.
In combination with Keyless Go, code 889, the Keyless Go authorization signal is relayed directly to the Keyless Go control unit for processing.
The telephone signals are transmitted and received by the telephone antenna. The received signals are sent to the E-net compensator. The E-net compensator is connected to the portable CTEL via the UPCI [UHI] portable CTEL holder (Universal Portable CTEL Interface). Transmitted telephone signals are sent from the E-net compensator to the telephone antenna.
External equipment can communicate with the Universal Portable CTEL Interface (UPCI [UHI]) control unit via the Bluetooth antenna. Signals can be transmitted to or received from the external equipment.
The system (preinstallation for portable CTEL UHI system (code 386)) is prepared for installation to the extent that the portable CTEL holder (Universal portable CTEL Interface) and the portable CTEL only need to be inserted.
The signals received via the GPS antenna are forwarded to the COMAND operating, display and control unit. The signals are required for position finding.
Navigation function not for MB Audio 20 radio, code 523.
The E-net compensator compensates for telephone antenna transmission and reception losses in order to provide a high degree of reachability in areas of poor reception.
The TV1 signal of the left side window antenna reaches the left antenna amplifier module, the TV4 signal of the right side window antenna reaches the right antenna amplifier module. The TV2 and TV3 signals of the rear window reach the TV rear window antenna amplifier. The amplified and filtered TV signals are transmitted to the TV combination tuner (analog/digital).
