REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of injury  caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A
NOTES Notes on performing repair, body work and welding on vehicles with airbags or emergency tensioning retractor units   AH91.00-P-0002-01M

1 Adjust air distribution on air conditioning to footwell. NOTES If air distribution is set incorrectly, the side air vent flaps can be detached at the air conditioner housing (A32) when removing the instrument panel (1).  
2 Remove glove box   AR68.10-P-1200CW 
3 Remove right air duct (2).    
4 Disconnect electrical connectors (3) and unhook electrical line (4) (arrow A).    
5 Remove right A-pillar paneling (5). SPECIAL TOOL Mounting wedge Fig 5
6 Remove center air vent (6) On model 204.0/2 up to model year 2012 / YoM 11 AR83.10-P-4503CW
On model 204.0/2 as of model year 2012 / YoM 11 and model 204.3 AR83.10-P-4503CWA
7.1 Remove radio In vehicles with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio or with
code (510) Audio 20 with CD changer or with
code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio or with
code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer or with
code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation system) or with
code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer

7.2 Remove cover (39) On vehicles without code (523) Audio 20 MB radio or without

8.1 Remove Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) In vehicles with code (523) MB Audio 20 radio or with

8.2 Remove storage compartment (7) On vehicles without code (523) Audio 20 MB radio or without

9 Unclip cover (8), disconnect electrical connector (9) at sun sensor (B32/3)    
10 Disconnect electrical connector at instrument panel parking system warning indicator (A44/4) On vehicles with code (220) Parktronic system (PTS)  
11 Remove center instrument panel speaker (H4/27) On vehicles up to code (810) Sound system  
12.1 Loosen center console (11) and pull approx. 3 to 4 cm toward rear. On model 204.0/2 up to model year 2012 / YoM 11
IMPORTANT Do not disconnect electrical connectors.

12.2 Remove center console (11) On model 204.0/2 as of model year 2012 / YoM 11 and model 204.3 AR68.20-P-2000CW 
13 Remove automatic air conditioning control and operating unit (N22/7) Front control and operating unit AR83.40-P-6350CW
14 Disconnect electrical connector at interior KEYLESS-GO antenna (A2/61) On vehicles with code (889) Keyless go
IMPORTANT The interior KEYLESS-GO antenna is located in the installation opening of the automatic air conditioning control and operating unit (N22/7).
 
15 Remove lower cover (12)    
16 Remove side covering (13).    
17 Unclip interior fuse box (F34) and position it towards the inside in the instrument panel (1) In model 204.0/2 up to 28.2.2011  
18 Unhook parking brake release cable (14) from release lever (15).    
19 Disconnect electrical connector (16) from exterior lights switch (S1)    
20 Disconnect electrical connectors (17) and unhook electrical line (18) (arrow B).    
21 Remove left A-pillar paneling (19) SPECIAL TOOL Mounting wedge Fig 5
22 Remove steering column tube module   AR54.25-P-2802CW
23 Remove instrument cluster (A1)   AR54.30-P-6015CW
24 Unclip line bracket (20, 21) from steering column boot (22) In model 204.0/2 up to 28.2.2011  
25 Press both upper ends of steering column boot (22) together (arrows C) and simultaneously unclip steering column boot (22) from instrument panel (1) In model 204.0/2 up to 28.2.2011  
26 Disconnect electrical connector at electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) In model 204.0/2 as of 1.3.2011 and model 204.3  
27 Unscrew trim ring (24) from electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) In model 204.0/2 up to 28.2.2011  
SPECIAL TOOL Claw wrench for trim ring on ignition/starter switch Fig 6
28 Press electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) toward inside into dashboard (1). In model 204.0/2 up to 28.2.2011  
29 Disconnect electrical connector (26) at driver kneebag squib (R12/25) On vehicles with code (294) Kneebag  
30 Disconnect electrical connectors (28) at front passenger airbag squib 1 (R12/4) and at front passenger airbag squib 2 (R12/5)    
31 Unscrew nuts (29) at driver kneebag (37) On vehicles with code (294) Kneebag  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.60-P-1003-01M 
32 Remove bolts (30)    
33 Remove bolts (31)    
34 Remove bolt (32) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA91.60-P-1002-01M 
35 Remove bolt (33)    
36 Remove bolt (38)    
37 Hook electrical line (34) (arrow E).    
38 Lift dashboard (1), disconnect electrical connector (25) from interior temperature sensor (B10/4) and electrical connector (35), separate air duct (36) from connector (arrow D) and remove dashboard (1) from vehicle. IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.
Air duct (36) only on vehicles with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with
code (512) COMAND APS including DVD changer.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Position electric wiring harnesses of components installed in dashboard (1) before installation.
On vehicles with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation) or with code (512) COMAND APS including DVD changer, ensure that the electric ignition switch control unit (N73) is positioned above the air duct (36).
 
39 Install in the reverse order
