Motor electronics (ME-SFI) for a fuel injection and ignition system, function - GF07.61-P-0001MIS

ENGINE 272.9 (except 272.974) in MODEL 221.0 /1 (except 221.095 /195) as of model year 2009/AEJ 08

ENGINE 273.9 in MODEL 216.3, 221.0 /1 as of model year 2009/ AEJ 08

Gasoline injection and ignition system ME-SFI, general points

The ME-SFI gasoline injection and ignition system is supplied by "Robert Bosch GmbH" and, when connected electrically with the sensors and actuators of engine 272 and 273 KE (port injection), forms the "ME 9.7" engine control.

The abbreviated designation "ME 9.7" means:

M= M  otronic

E= E  lectronic accelerator pedal

9.7  = Version 9.7

The whole engine control is located in the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10), which is subdivided in the following systems:

Sensor data is directly read in from the engine control and indirectly via the CAN interconnection and actuates the respective actors. The following functions and systems are controlled and coordinated:

Basic functions

IMPORTANT Diagnosis

For diagnostic purposes, the Diagnosis Assistance System (DAS) can be used to read out and delete the engine control fault codes, and to actuate certain specific diagnostic functions.

IMPORTANT CAN interconnection Via the connected drive train CAN (CAN C) and chassis CAN (CAN E), the ME-SFI [ME] control unit exchanges data with the other control units integrated in the CAN network.

The ME-SFI [ME] control unit also acts as the interface (gateway) between the two CAN bus systems.

IMPORTANT Flash programming

The engine control in the ME-SFI [ME] control unit is flash programmable, that is the complete software in the control unit can be replaced using the DAS (installed new). The software required to program the control units is provided on the STAR DIAGNOSIS DAS Update DVD.

IMPORTANT Variant coding

Using variant coding the following vehicle versions and equipment can be coded using the DAS:

Engine system

Injection system

Ignition system

Exhaust system

The operating conditions of the engine and the active partial functions of the engine control is described in the following documents:
