5 Position crankshaft to 30° after ignition TDC of cylinder 1 IMPORTANT Crank engine at crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine until 30° marking on belt pulley/vibration damper is aligned with marking on timing case cover. The marking (A) of the camshaft bearing cap (7) must be aligned with the marking (B) of the camshaft (5).
NOTES Engine must not be cranked backwards.

6 Mark camshaft adjuster and timing chain to each other with colored dots.
7 Install camshaft adjuster (4) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Fit timing chain onto camshaft adjuster. Take off retaining clamp. AR05.20-P-7201L

9 Remove cylinder shutoff valves (3) NOTESInstallation:  Center cylinder shutoff valves on camshaft bearing caps so as to ensure a proper seal to the cylinder head cover. AR01.30-P-5705L
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA05.20-P-1005-01E
10 Remove camshafts (5) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Move camshafts into basic position, see: ↓ AR05.20-P-6992L
Adjust basic position of camshafts AR05.20-P-6020L
11 Remove camshaft bearing bridges (6) NOTESInstallation:  The camshaft bearing bridge must not be disassembled. When carrying out repairs, the camshaft or rocker arm bearing bridge on both cylinder heads must be replaced complete. If the camshaft or rocker arm bearing bridge of the left cylinder head is replaced, the camshaft must likewise be replaced. AR05.20-P-7103L
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA05.20-P-1004-01E
12 Use a 2 mm drift to press compensating element (10) of the relevant cylinder out of the roller rocker arms (8) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Slots of disk (9) at top in rocker arm must face down toward compensation element!
NOTES Do not use a magnet! The friction surface of the compensating element would otherwise be magnetized. This may cause minute iron swarf to gather which can result in damage to the compensating element and cam.
IMPORTANTInstallation:  Compensation elements which have not been replaced, must be reinstalled at the same point.

13 Install in the reverse order
