Operation of COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3) using multifunction steering wheel

With the aid of the switches on the multifunction steering wheel  and the multifunction display (A1p13)  on the instrument cluster (A1)  the following system controlled by COMAND  can be operated and information about the systems displayed:

Data transfers between the instrument cluster (A1)  and the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3)  take place via the CAN (A40/3-A1):

All button presses on the multifunction steering wheel are read in by the instrument cluster (A1)  (voltage coded).

The instrument cluster (A1)  connects these signals to the system currently displayed on the multifunction display (navigation, audio, telephone). This interpretation is necessary because the operation of the buttons depends on the current content of the multifunction display (A1p13)  .

The interpreted data is subsequently put onto the CAN by the instrument cluster (A1)  and received by the COMAND operating, display and control module (A40/3)  .

IMPORTANT The instrument cluster (A1)  receives the current date and time from COMAND, since this information is automatically received via GPS and therefore does not need to be altered.
