A 3.5 mm standard jack bush is installed in the glove box. This means that a normal Walkman or Discman can be connected. The audio signals are preamplified by the COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3)  and the required tone settings (volume, bass, treble and fader) are made.

The sound system amplifier (N40/3)  (only with code 810) provides the final amplification of the signals before they are output via the vehicle loudspeakers (see picture).
