Removing/installing the oil pan - AR01.45-P-7500FA

REMOVINGINSTALLING Removing/installing     
IMPORTANT   SPECIAL TOOL External torx set Figure
1 Remove engine compartment panels   AR61.20-P-1105AB
2 Drain and collect engine oil FLUID SPECIFICATION *BF18.00-P-1001-01H 
3 Remove viscous fan (1) IMPORTANT Right-hand thread! AR20.40-P-5660C
4 Remove fan shroud (2)
  • On models fitted with suction fan, first of all separate the plug connection of the suction fan.
 
5 Remove engine trim panel    
6 Remove resonance tube (13) and resonance body (14)
  • Separate plug connection of hot film mass air flow sensor (HFM) for this step and unbolt resonance pipe at cylinder head cover.

IMPORTANT The resonance pipe is attached at the rear at the intake manifold with a plastic plate.
NOTES Do not damage plastic plate.

7 Remove bottom section of oil pan (3) NOTESInstallation:  Sealing compound flow at bottom section of oil pan AR01.45-P-7555VA 
    Loctite 5970 sealing compound *BR00.45-Z-1013-01A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA01.45-P-1002-01B 
8 Disconnect electric cable at oil level sensor (B40)    
9 Remove oil pipe (4) from dipstick Unscrew one bolt at cylinder head cover!
Installation:  Install new sealing ring.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA01.20-P-1001-01E 
10 Take off front wheels    
11 Remove exhaust (9)   AR49.10-P-7000A
12 Remove front drive shafts (5) Detach front drive shafts from front drive gear for this step!
NOTES Do not damage seals of drive shafts!

13 Remove intermediate shaft (6) Remove circlip on outside at bearing! AR33.30-P-0625A
14 Remove front axle gear (7)   AR33.30-P-0525A
15 Unscrew bolts (8) of front engine mounts (12) at front axle carrier (16) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA22.10-P-1001-01L 
16 Fit on engine supporting frame   AR01.10-P-7500-03B
17 Raise engine NOTES Ensure that the engine and the attached parts do not touch the body!
Do not overtension coolant lines!
 
18 Support front axle carrier (16) with inspection pit or assembly lift   AR33.10-P-0100-03B
19 Unscrew bolt (10) of steering coupling TORQUE SPECIFICATIONInstallation: 
Replace nut and bolt.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA46.10-P-1001-01B 
20 Unbolt fixture (17) of ATF line (18) at front axle carrier (16)    
21 Unscrew bolts (15) at front axle carrier (16) TORQUE SPECIFICATION The bolts (15) are self-tapping; pay attention to the following procedure:
  • Never  re-tap thread in side member.
  • Replace bolts.
  • Use only original bolts (4 x).
  • Do not position bolts at an angle when screwing in.
  • Do not use an impact wrench
  • Pay attention to tightening torque.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA33.10-P-1003-01A 
22 Lower front axle carrier (16) IMPORTANTInstallation: 
Contact surfaces of front axle carrier to longitudinal member must be cleaned and flat.
Insert locating pins (arrows) at front axle carrier into the holes in the longitudinal member when fitting on.
 
23 Remove top section of oil pan (11) Take out oil pan to the front in direction of travel for this step; rotate crankshaft slightly, if necessary. Push the ATF lines at the automatic transmission slightly to the side.
IMPORTANTInstallation: 
  • Pay attention to different lengths and diameters of bolts! ↓

IMPORTANT Notes on application of sealant to oil pan NOTESInstallation:  AH01.45-P-0001-01C
24 Install in reverse order    
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns when working in engine during starting procedure Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

Run engine and inspect for leaks
   
26 Read out fault memory and erase Stored faults which can result from cables being disconnected or from simulation during removal and installation or test work, have to be processed and erased in the fault memories after completing the work. ↓
