Diagnostic Trouble Code Definitions

NOTE: Only transaxle-related DTCs are listed. For engine-related DTC definitions, see TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS article in GENERAL INFORMATION. For engine-related DTC diagnosis, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. These DTCs pertain to engine performance and must be repaired first, as engine performance and related component signals will affect transaxle operation and diagnosis.

P0116 (2) ECT Out Of On-Board Diagnostic Range ECT Temperature Higher Or Lower Than Expected During KOEO & KOER Re-Run On-Board Diagnostics At Normal Operating Temperature
P0117 (2) ECT Indicates 254°F (125°C) - Short To Ground ECT Temperature Higher Or Lower Than Expected During KOEO & KOER TCC Will Always Be Off Resulting In Poor Fuel Economy

P0122-P0123 (2) TP Sensor Malfunction PCM Has Detected An Error. This Error May Cause A Transaxle Concern Harsh Shifts, Abnormal Shift Patterns, TCC Does Not Engage, TCC Cycling
P0300-P0308, P0320 & P0340 (2) Electronic Ignition (EI) System Malfunction EI System Has A Malfunction Which May Cause A Transaxle Concern Engine Malfunction, No TCC Engagement
P0705 D  Digital TR Sensor Circuit Short To Ground Or Open Digital TR Sensor Circuits, Indicating An Invalid Pattern In TR_D. Condition Caused By A Short To Ground Or An Open In TR4, TR3A, TR2 and/or TR1 circuits, DTC P0705 Cannot Be Set By An Incorrectly Adjusted Digital TR Sensor Increase in EPC Pressure (Harsh Shifts); Defaults To OD Or D For All Gear Positions; In OD Position, Transmission Is Stuck In D Or Manual 2nd
P0707 D  TR Out Of Range, Shorted Circuit Or Sensor TR Sensor, Circuit Or Powertrain Control Module Shorted To Ground No Fourth Gear Operation, Firm Shift Feel, No Manual First Gear. No TCC Operation
P0708 D  Digital TR Sensor Circuit TR3A Open Circuit Digital TR Sensor Circuit TR3A Reading 2.6- 5.0V (Open Circuit). This DTC Cannot Be Set By An Incorrectly Adjusted Digital TR Sensor Increase In EPC Pressure, Defaults To OD Or D For All Gear Ranges
P0712 B  TFT Indicates 302°F (150°C) - Short To Ground Voltage Drop Across TFT Sensor Exceeds Scale Set For Temperature Of 302°F °C) TCC & Stabilized Shift Schedule May Be Enabled Sooner After Cold Start. Harsh Or Soft Shifts

P0731 (3) A  No 1st Gear Incorrect Gear Ratio While Commanding 1st Gear (4) Incorrect Gear Selection Depending On Condition Mode & Manual Lever Position. Shift Errors May Also Be Due To Other Internal Transaxle Concerns (e.g., Stuck Valves, Damaged Friction Material)

P1100 & P1101 (2) MAF Sensor Malfunction MAF System Has A Malfunction Which May Cause A Transaxle Concern Incorrect Shift Schedule, High/Low EPC Pressure. Incorrect TCC Engagement Scheduling. Symptoms Similar To A TP Failure
P1120, P1121 & P1125 (2) TP Sensor Malfunction PCM Has Detected An Error. This Error May Cause A Transaxle Concern Harsh Shifts, Abnormal Shift Patterns, TCC Does Not Engage, TCC Cycling

P1741 C  Continuous Slip Error Excessive Variations In Slip (Engine Speed Surge) Across The Torque Converter Clutch Detected Engine Runs Rough/Vehicle Shudders, May Feel A Slight Sensation Of The Engine Running Rough At Road Loads (Approximately 35-40 MPH In 3rd Gear, 45-50 MPH In 4th Gear)

P1744 C  Excessive Slip Detected Excessive Slip Detected During Full TCC Engagement Torque Converter Disengaged, EPC Pressure At Minimum, May Activate MIL
P1746 (3) E  Open PCM Output Driver Voltage Through EPC Solenoid Is Checked & Compared To A Voltage Through Solenoid After A Time Delay, Any Errors Are Recorded Open Circuit - Causes Maximum EPC Pressure, Harsh Engagements & Shifts
P1747, P1760 (3) E  EPC Solenoid Circuit Failure, Shorted Circuit Or Output Driver Voltage Through EPC Solenoid Is Checked & Compared To A Voltage Through Solenoid After A Time Delay, Any Errors Are Recorded Short Circuit - Causes Failsafe EPC Pressure (Maximum Capacity), Harsh Engagements & Shifts

P1780 (2) Transmission Control Switch Not Changing States During Self-Test Transmission Control Switch Not Cycled During Self-Test. Circuit Open Or Shorted Rerun Self-Test & Cycle Switch. No Overdrive Cancel When Switch Is Cycled
P1782 (2) Performance/Economy (P/E) Switch Circuit Out Of Self-Test Range P/E Switch Not Cycled During Self-Test Or Shorted/Opened Inability To Change Switch States
P1783 B  Transmission Overheating Condition, Fluid Temperature Exceeded - 270°F (132°C) Increase In EPC Pressure During Overtemp Only Increase In EPC Pressure
P1788 G  3-2T/CCS Solenoid Circuit Failure - Open 3-2T/CCS Circuit Fails To Provide Voltage Drop Across Solenoid. Circuit Open Or Processor Drive Circuit Failure During Self-Test Failed Off-Engine Braking In 2nd/3rd Gears, Firm Or Flared 3-2 Downshifts. Harsh 4-3 Downshifts

(5) Diagnose DTC by symptom. See appropriate SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
(6) Output circuit check, generated ONLY by electrical conditions.
(7) If stuck on or not connected, TCC will not engage at 1/3 or less throttle. If stuck off or not connected, TCC will not disengage when brake is applied.
