WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Escape, 2001 Mazda Tribute, and 2001 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
After each service or repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components. Clear DTCs and repeat QUICK TEST. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (QUICK TEST)
under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Ensure all EEC-V systems are working properly and DTCs are no longer present.
- Ensure transaxle harness connector is fully seated. Ensure gearshift lever is in "P" position. Connect NGS tester or equivalent to DLC. Perform KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) SELF-TEST until continuous memory codes have been displayed. Confirm DTCs P1714 and/or P1715 are still present. If any DTCs for shift solenoids or TFT sensor are present, repair those DTCs first. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Perform TRANSAXLE DRIVE CYCLE TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Repeat QUICK TEST. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (QUICK TEST) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no other DTCs are present, replace faulty transmission control solenoid body assembly. See appropriate AUTOMATIC article in TRANSMISSION SERVICING. Go to next step.
- Perform TRANSAXLE DRIVE CYCLE TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If transaxle upshifts and downshifts correctly, go to next step. If transaxle does not upshift or downshift correctly, see appropriate SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING .
- Ensure gearshift lever is in "P" position. Connect NGS tester or equivalent to DLC. Perform KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) SELF-TEST until continuous memory codes have been displayed. If DTCs P1714 and/or P1715 are still present, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Repeat QUICK TEST. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (QUICK TEST) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Perform TRANSAXLE DRIVE CYCLE TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTCs P1714 and/or P1715 are not present, test is complete. If concern still exists, see appropriate SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING .
