Removal [12/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After the ignition switch is turned off, there may be a waiting time before disconnecting the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

  2. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

      1. Remove the 2 bolts, 3 screws and 8 clips.
      2. Turn the 2 clips and remove the front floor cover LH from the vehicle body.
        NOTE:

        If the 2 clips are not turned when the front floor cover LH is removed, the front floor cover LH or stud bolt may be damaged.

        HINT: 

        Do not remove the clips from the front floor cover LH.

  15. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR COVER RH

      1. Remove the 3 bolts, 3 screws and clip.
      2. Turn the 3 clips and remove the front floor cover RH from the vehicle body.
        NOTE:

        If the 3 clips are not turned when the front floor cover RH is removed, the front floor cover RH or stud bolt may be damaged.

        HINT: 

        Do not remove the clips from the front floor cover RH.

  16. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER ASSEMBLY

  26. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

      1. Hold the rear of the V-bank cover sub-assembly and raise it to disengage the 2 rear clips.
      2. Raise the V-bank cover sub-assembly to disengage the 2 front clips and remove the V-bank cover sub-assembly.
        NOTE:

        Attempting to disengage both front and rear clips at the same time may cause the V-bank cover sub-assembly to break.

  27. REMOVE HYBRID MOTOR CONTROL INVERTER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [12/2023 - ]

  28. DISCONNECT FLOOR UNDER WIRE 
    WARNING:

    Be sure to wear insulated gloves.

      *a Green-colored Lock - -
      Slide - -
      1. Slide the green-colored lock of the connector as shown in the illustration to release it and disconnect the floor under wire.
  29. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE 
    HINT: 
    After disconnecting the wire harness, secure it with tape or equivalent to keep it out of the way.

      1. Remove the No. 2 fuel pipe clamp from the No. 1 fuel hose.

      2. Disconnect the No. 1 fuel hose from the fuel pipe.

    WARNING:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust pipe or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

      1. Insert the projection of the service plug grip and turn the button of the No. 23 traction battery bracket counterclockwise to release the lock to remove the No. 23 traction battery bracket.
      2. Remove the 4 nuts and engine under cover heat insulator.
  46. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER AIR DUCT

      1. Disengage the 2 clamps and disconnect the engine wire from the exhaust sensor bracket.
      2. Remove the bolt and exhaust sensor bracket.
      3. Disconnect the engine wire connector.
      4. Disengage the 2 clamps.
      5. Disconnect the No. 2 air fuel ratio sensor connector.

      Pull Out in this Direction - -
      1. Pull out the No. 4 inverter cooling hose and No. 5 inverter cooling hose toward the vehicle side as shown in the illustration.
        NOTE:

        When removing the engine assembly with transaxle from the vehicle, secure the inverter cooling hose on the vehicle side with tape to prevent it from being damaged by interference or catching on parts.

  50. SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

    1. Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

      Attachments - -
      1. Set the engine assembly with transaxle on an engine lifter.
        NOTE:
        • Using height adjustment attachments and plate lift attachments, keep the engine assembly with transaxle level.
        • Do not perform any procedures while the engine assembly is suspended because doing so may cause the engine assembly to drop, resulting in injury. However, the engine assembly needs to be suspended when it is installed to or removed from an engine stand.
        • To prevent the engine assembly from unexpectedly moving, securely support the engine assembly until it is secured to an engine stand.

      1. Remove the 3 bolts and nut and separate the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH from the engine mounting bracket RH.
      2. Remove the 4 bolts and the engine mounting stay LH from the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly LH.
      3. Remove the 4 bolts and separate the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly LH from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.
      4. Remove the 2 bolts (A), 4 bolts (B), front suspension member brace rear LH and front suspension member brace rear RH from the front frame assembly and vehicle body.
      5. Operate the engine lifter and remove the engine assembly with transaxle from the vehicle.
        NOTE:
        • Make sure that the engine assembly with transaxle is clear of all wiring and hoses.
        • While lowering the engine assembly with transaxle from the vehicle, do not allow it to contact the vehicle.

  61. REMOVE EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY

  63. INSTALL ENGINE HANGERS

      *A for Bank 1 *B for Bank 2
      *1 No. 1 Engine Hanger *2 No. 2 Engine Hanger
      1. Install the No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger with the 4 bolts as shown in the illustration.

        Torque: 33 N.m (337 kgf/cm, 24 ft.lbf) 

        HINT: 

        No. 1 Engine Hanger 12281-31121
        No. 2 Engine Hanger 12282-31100
        Bolt 91671-10825
      2. Using an engine sling device and engine lift, secure the engine assembly with transaxle.
        NOTE:
        • Pay attention to the angle of the sling device as the engine assembly or No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger may be damaged or deformed if the angle is incorrect.
        • Do not perform any procedures while the engine assembly is suspended because doing so may cause the engine assembly to drop, resulting in injury. However, the engine assembly needs to be suspended when it is installed to or removed from an engine stand.
