Replacement [12/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  2. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  3. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  4. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  5. REMOVE SUSPENSION TOWER DAMPER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  6. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (for Engine) 
    WARNING:

    Do not remove the reserve tank cap, radiator cap sub-assembly or radiator drain cock plug while the engine and radiator assembly are still hot. Pressurized, hot engine coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

    1. Connect a hose with an inside diameter of 8.3 mm (0.327 in.) to the radiator drain cock as shown in the illustration.

    2. Connect a hose with an inside diameter of 8.0 mm (0.315 in.) to the cylinder block water drain cock plug as shown in the illustration.

    3. Loosen the radiator drain cock plug.

      *3 Cylinder Block Water Drain Cock Plug *4 Air Drain Cock Plug
    4. Loosen and open the 2 air drain cock plugs.

    5. Remove the radiator cap sub-assembly. Then drain the engine coolant.

      HINT: 

      Collect the engine coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.

    6. Loosen the cylinder block water drain cock plug.
    7. Tighten the cylinder block water drain cock plug.

      Torque: 12.7 N.m (130 kgf/cm, 9 ft.lbf) 

    8. Tighten the radiator drain cock plug by hand.
    9. Disconnect the hose from the radiator drain cock.
    10. Disconnect the hose from the cylinder block water drain cock plug.
    11. Tighten the 2 air drain cock plugs.
    12. Install the radiator cap sub-assembly.
  7. ADD ENGINE COOLANT (for Engine) 

    HINT: 

    After parts are removed and installed, the thermostat may not open by only performing the coolant replacement procedure even if the engine is warmed up without removing air. In this case, perform the procedure again after draining the coolant.

    1. Remove the radiator cap sub-assembly.
    2. Loosen and open the 2 air drain cock plugs.

    3. Pour coolant of the specified concentration into the coolant filler hole.

      Standard Capacity

      13.1 liters (13.8 US qts, 11.5 Imp. qts)

      NOTE:

      Do not substitute plain water for coolant.

      HINT: 

      • Squeeze the radiator hose several times by hand, and then check the level of the coolant in the radiator assembly. If the coolant level lowers, pour coolant of the specified concentration again.
      • The coolant level in the radiator assembly must be within 20 mm from the filler hole surface.
    4. Tighten the 2 air drain cock plugs.
    5. Remove the reserve tank cap sub-assembly.
    6. Pour coolant of the specified concentration into the radiator reserve tank assembly until it reaches the MAX line.

      NOTE:

      Do not substitute plain water for coolant.

    7. Install the reserve tank cap sub-assembly.
    8. Install the radiator cap sub-assembly to the radiator assembly.
    9. Set the vehicle to Engine Coolant Add Mode.
      1. If adding coolant not using the GTS, perform the following procedure.
        1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
        2. Check that the set temperature is displayed as Lo.
        3. Alternate between pressing the "Recirculation/fresh control" switch and then the "AUTO" switch, pressing each switch 5 times within 10 seconds. Begin doing this within 30 seconds after turning the ignition switch to ON.
        4. Set the driver seat air conditioning temperature to 20°C.
        5. Alternate between pressing the "Recirculation/fresh control" switch and then the "AUTO" switch, pressing each switch 5 times within 10 seconds. Begin doing this within 10 seconds after setting the temperature.
        6. Check that the set temperature display switches automatically to Lo.
    10. Put the vehicle in inspection mode(2WD MAINTENANCE MODE).

      Refer to INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE [09/2023 - ]

    11. Idle the engine for 10 seconds and then fully depress the accelerator pedal for 15 seconds repeatedly 3 times.
    12. Stop the engine.
    13. Check the coolant level inside the radiator assembly.
      1. Remove the radiator cap sub-assembly from the radiator assembly.
        WARNING:

        Do not remove the radiator cap sub-assembly while the engine and radiator assembly are still hot. Pressurized hot coolant and steam may be sprayed out and result in burns.

      2. Check that the coolant level in the radiator assembly is within 20 mm from the filler hole surface.

        HINT: 

        If the coolant level in the radiator assembly is at least 20 mm from the filler hole surface, pour coolant of the specified concentration.

      3. Install the radiator cap sub-assembly to the radiator assembly.
    14. Set the vehicle to Engine Coolant Add Mode. [*1]
      1. If adding coolant not using the GTS, perform the following procedure.
        1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
        2. Check that the set temperature is displayed as Lo.
        3. Alternate between pressing the "Recirculation/fresh control" switch and then the "AUTO" switch, pressing each switch 5 times within 10 seconds. Begin doing this within 30 seconds after turning the ignition switch to ON.
        4. Set the driver seat air conditioning temperature to 20°C.
        5. Alternate between pressing the "Recirculation/fresh control" switch and then the "AUTO" switch, pressing each switch 5 times within 10 seconds. Begin doing this within 10 seconds after setting the temperature.
        6. Check that the set temperature display switches automatically to Lo.
    15. Put the vehicle in inspection mode(2WD MAINTENANCE MODE). [*2]

      Refer to INSPECTION MODE PROCEDURE [09/2023 - ]

    16. Warm up the engine until the thermostat opens. When the thermostat opens, run the engine for several minutes to circulate the coolant. [*3]
      WARNING:
      • Wear protective gloves while working.
      • Pay attention to fan operation.
      • The engine, radiator assembly and radiator hose become hot after the engine is warmed up, which may lead to burns if touched.
      NOTE:
      • If the radiator reserve tank assembly runs out of coolant, perform the following immediately stop the engine, wait until the coolant has cooled down and pour in coolant.
      • Do not start the engine when there is no coolant in the radiator reserve tank assembly.
      • Make sure that the coolant temperature gauge of the meter does not display a high temperature.
      • If there is not enough coolant, the engine may overheat.

      HINT: 

      The thermostat opening timing can be checked by pressing radiator hose by hand.

    17. Stop the engine and wait until the coolant cools down. [*4]
    18. Check the coolant level inside the radiator assembly. [*5]
      1. Remove the radiator cap sub-assembly from the radiator assembly.
        WARNING:

        Do not remove the radiator cap sub-assembly while the engine and radiator assembly are still hot. Pressurized hot coolant and steam may be sprayed out and result in burns.

      2. Check that the coolant level in the radiator assembly is within 20 mm from the filler hole surface.

        HINT: 

        If the coolant level in the radiator assembly is at least 20 mm from the filler hole surface, pour coolant of the specified concentration.

      3. Install the radiator cap sub-assembly to the radiator assembly.
    19. Check that the coolant level of the radiator reserve tank assembly is up to the MAX line. [*6]

      HINT: 

      • If the coolant level is lower than the MAX line, pour coolant of the specified concentration into the radiator reserve tank assembly until it reaches the MAX line, install the reserve tank cap, and repeat the procedure from step [*1] to [*6].
      • If the coolant level is higher than the MAX line, drain coolant until it falls to the MAX line.
  8. INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK (for Engine) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  9. INSTALL SUSPENSION TOWER DAMPER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  10. INSTALL REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 80

  11. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 81

  12. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL OPENING EXTENSION PAD RH
