Removal [09/2014 - 09/2020]: Procedure

  1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  2. SEPARATE REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  3. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and separate the rear speed sensor from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.
      NOTE:
      • Prevent foreign matter from contacting the sensor tip.
      • Clean the rear speed sensor installation hole and the contact surfaces every time the rear speed sensor is removed.

  4. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT 
    1. Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the rear axle shaft nut.
      • SST: 09930-00010 
      NOTE:

      Loosen the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the threads of the rear drive shaft assembly may be damaged.

    2. While applying the brakes, remove the rear axle shaft nut.
  5. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 

    See step  2

  6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  7. REMOVE REAR DISC 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  8. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to DISASSEMBLY [09/2014 - 09/2020]

  9. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION ARM COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  10. REMOVE TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/o Dynamic Rear Steering) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  11. SEPARATE REAR STEERING TIE ROD ASSEMBLY (w/ Dynamic Rear Steering) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  12. SEPARATE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and nut, and separate the rear No. 1 suspension arm assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.
      NOTE:

      Because the nut has its own stopper, do not turn the nut. Loosen the bolt with the nut secured.

  13. REMOVE REAR STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [09/2014 - 11/2017] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [11/2017 - ]

  14. SEPARATE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  15. REMOVE REAR COIL SPRING 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  16. REMOVE REAR UPPER COIL SPRING INSULATOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  17. REMOVE REAR LOWER COIL SPRING INSULATOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  18. SEPARATE REAR NO. 1 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 44 [09/2014 - 10/2015] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 44 [10/2015 - 11/2017] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 44 [11/2017 - 09/2020]

  19. LOOSEN REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and separate the rear speed sensor from the rear upper control arm assembly.

    2. Loosen the rear upper control arm assembly nut.
      NOTE:
      • Do not remove the bolt and nut.
      • Because the bolt has its own stopper, do not turn the bolt. Loosen the nut with the bolt secured.

  20. REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Put matchmarks on the rear drive shaft assembly and rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

    2. Using a plastic hammer, separate the rear drive shaft assembly from the rear axle hub and bearing assembly.

      HINT: 

      If it is difficult to separate the rear drive shaft assembly from the rear axle hub and bearing assembly, tap the end of the rear drive shaft assembly using a brass bar and a hammer.

    3. Remove the bolt, nut and washer and separate the rear upper control arm assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.
      NOTE:

      Because the bolt has its own stopper, do not turn the bolt. Loosen the nut with the bolt secured.

    4. Remove the rear axle assembly from the rear drive shaft assembly.
      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the rear drive shaft boot.

      HINT: 

      Use wire or an equivalent tool to keep the rear drive shaft assembly from hanging down.

  21. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR 
    1. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, remove the rear No. 1 wheel bearing dust deflector.
      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.

  22. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY 
    1. Hold the rear axle carrier sub-assembly between aluminum plates in a vise.
      NOTE:

      Do not overtighten the vise.

    2. Remove the 4 bolts, parking brake plate sub-assembly and rear axle hub and bearing assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.
