Removal [10/2018 - 07/2022]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

  2. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  3. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE 

    Refer to PRECAUTION [10/2018 - ]

  4. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  5. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  6. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts, 4 screws, 4 clips and No. 1 engine under cover assembly from the vehicle.

  7. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER LH 
    1. Remove the 6 clips and rear engine under cover LH from the vehicle.

  8. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER RH 
    1. Remove the 6 clips and rear engine under cover RH from the vehicle.

  9. DRAIN ENGINE OIL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  10. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (for Engine) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [10/2018 - 10/2019] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [10/2019 - ]

  11. DRAIN HYBRID TRANSAXLE FLUID 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [10/2018 - 10/2019] , or refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2 [10/2019 - ]

  12. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Lift the front of the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly to disengage the 3 clips, and then lift the rear of the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly to disengage the clip and remove the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly.
      NOTE:

      Attempting to disengage both front and rear clips at the same time may cause the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly to break.

  13. REMOVE RADIATOR SUPPORT OPENING COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  14. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and No. 1 air cleaner inlet from the upper radiator support sub-assembly and air cleaner case sub-assembly.

  15. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP WITH AIR CLEANER HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  16. REMOVE AIR CLEANER FILTER ELEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  17. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and remove the air cleaner case sub-assembly.

  18. REMOVE ECM 

    Refer to REMOVAL [10/2018 - 07/2022]

  19. REMOVE NO. 1 RELAY BLOCK COVER 
    1. Disengage the claw and 2 guides to remove the No. 1 relay block cover from the engine room relay block.

  20. REMOVE ENGINE WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the 3 connectors from the engine room relay block.

    2. Disengage the 2 claws to separate the engine wire from the engine room relay block.
    3. Remove the nut.

    4. Disengage the 2 claws to separate the engine wire from the engine room relay block.
    5. Remove the 2 bolts to separate the engine wire from the vehicle.

    6. Disengage the 3 clamps to separate the engine wire from the vehicle.

  21. REMOVE INVERTER WITH CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to REMOVAL [10/2018 - 07/2022]

  22. REMOVE INVERTER RESERVE TANK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts.

    2. Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 5 inverter cooling hose from the inverter reserve tank assembly.
    3. Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 2 inverter cooling hose from the inverter reserve tank assembly.
  23. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the nut and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the control shaft lever.

    2. Remove the clip and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the No. 1 transmission control cable bracket.
  24. DISCONNECT NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE

    1. Disengage the clamp to separate the No. 1 radiator hose.
    2. Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 1 radiator hose from the water outlet.
  25. DISCONNECT NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE 
    1. Disengage the 3 clamps to disconnect the No. 1 inverter cooling hose assembly and hybrid water pump inlet hose from the fan shroud assembly.

    2. Slide the clip and disconnect the No. 2 radiator hose from the water inlet sub-assembly.

  26. DISCONNECT INLET HYBRID RADIATOR HOSE 
    1. Slide the clip and disconnect the inlet hybrid radiator hose from the transmission oil cooler.

  27. DISCONNECT OUTLET NO. 1 HYBRID WATER PUMP HOSE 
    1. Slide the clip and disconnect the outlet No. 1 hybrid water pump hose from the transmission oil cooler.

  28. REMOVE NO. 1 FUEL VAPOR FEED HOSE 
    1. Pinch the retainer of the No. 1 fuel vapor feed hose connector, and then pull the No. 1 fuel vapor feed hose connector off of the No. 2 fuel vapor feed pipe.
      NOTE:

      Be sure to disconnect the No. 1 fuel vapor feed hose connector by hand.

  29. REMOVE PURGE VALVE (PURGE VSV) 
  30. REMOVE FUEL VAPOR FEED PIPE 
    1. Disengage the clamp and remove the bolt to separate the engine wire.

    2. Disengage the clamp to separate the No. 1 fuel vapor feed hose.
    3. Remove the bolt and fuel vapor feed pipe from the fuel delivery guard..
  31. REMOVE FUEL DELIVERY GUARD 
    1. Remove the bolt and fuel delivery guard from the engine mounting bracket RH.

  32. DISCONNECT INLET HEATER WATER HOSE 
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2. Pull out the retainer to disengage the lock claws and pull off the inlet heater water hose.

    3. Check that there is no foreign matter on the sealing surfaces of the disconnected water lines. Clean them if necessary.
    4. Cover the disconnected water hose sub-assembly and inlet heater water hose connector with plastic bags to prevent damage and contamination
  33. DISCONNECT OUTLET HEATER WATER HOSE 
    1. Pull out the retainer to disengage the lock claws and pull off the outlet heater water hose.

    2. Check that there is no foreign matter on the sealing surfaces of the disconnected water lines. Clean them if necessary.
    3. Cover the disconnected water hose sub-assembly and outlet heater water hose connector with plastic bags to prevent damage and contamination.
  34. DISCONNECT FUEL TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the clamp to separate the fuel tube sub-assembly.

    2. Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel pump assembly.

      Refer to PRECAUTION [10/2018 - ]

  35. DISCONNECT WATER BY-PASS HOSE 
    1. Slide the hose clip and disconnect the water by-pass hose from the No. 3 water by-pass pipe.

  36. SEPARATE NO. 3 WATER BY-PASS HOSE 
    1. Disengage the clamp to separate the No. 3 water by-pass hose.

  37. DISCONNECT DISCHARGE HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY

  38. DISCONNECT SUCTION HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY

  43. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (TWC: Rear Catalyst)

  44. REMOVE DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

  45. REMOVE NO. 1 SIDE RAIL REINFORCEMENT LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  46. REMOVE NO. 1 SIDE RAIL REINFORCEMENT RH 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

  47. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE 
    1. Set the engine assembly with transaxle on an engine lifter.
      NOTE:
      • Using height adjustment attachments and plate lift attachments, keep the engine assembly with transaxle and front suspension crossmember sub-assembly level.
      • Do not perform any procedures while the engine assembly is suspended because doing so may cause the engine assembly to drop, resulting in injury. However, the engine assembly needs to be suspended when it is installed to or removed from an engine stand.
      • To prevent the engine assembly from unexpectedly moving, securely support the engine assembly until it is secured to an engine stand.
      • To prevent the oil pan sub-assembly from deforming, do not place any attachments under the oil pan sub-assembly of the engine assembly with transaxle.
    2. Remove the 2 bolts and nut and separate the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH from the engine mounting bracket RH.

    3. Remove the 3 bolts and nut and separate the engine mounting insulator LH from the hybrid vehicle transaxle assembly.

    4. Remove the bolt and No. 2 engine mounting stay LH.

    5. Remove the 6 bolts to separate the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly from the vehicle.

    6. Operate the engine lifter and remove the engine assembly with transaxle from the vehicle.
      NOTE:
      • Make sure that the engine assembly with transaxle is clear of all wiring and hoses.
      • While lowering the engine assembly with transaxle from the vehicle, do not allow it to contact the vehicle.
  48. INSTALL ENGINE HANGER 
    1. Install the No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger with the 4 bolts as shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 43 N.m (438 kgf/cm, 32 ft.lbf) 

      HINT: 

      No. 1 Engine Hanger 12281-25030
      No. 2 Engine Hanger 12282-25010

    2. Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine assembly with transaxle with a chain block.
      NOTE:
      • Pay attention to the angle of the sling device as the engine assembly or No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger may be damaged or deformed if the angle is incorrect.
      • Do not perform any procedure while the engine assembly with transaxle is suspended because doing so may cause the engine assembly with transaxle to drop, resulting in injury. However, the engine assembly with transaxle needs to be suspended when it is installed to or removed from an engine stand.
  49. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR LH 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting insulator LH is necessary.

    1. Remove the 4 bolts, nut and engine mounting insulator LH from the vehicle.

  50. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH is necessary.

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 2 earth wire from the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH and vehicle.

    2. Remove the bolt, nut and disconnect the air conditioner tube and accessory assembly.

    3. Remove the 2 bolts, nut and engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH from the vehicle.
  51. REMOVE STARTER HOLE INSULATOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  52. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING SIDE COVER 
    1. Remove the flywheel housing side cover from the cylinder block sub-assembly.

  53. REMOVE NO. 2 FUEL VAPOR FEED PIPE 
    1. Remove the bolt, nut and No. 2 fuel vapor feed pipe from the fuel hose bracket and wire harness clamp bracket.

  54. REMOVE HV AIR CONDITIONING WIRE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  55. REMOVE ENGINE WIRE

    5. Disconnect all the clamps and connectors and remove the engine wire from the engine assembly with transaxle.

  57. REMOVE COMPRESSOR WITH MOTOR ASSEMBLY

  58. REMOVE TRANSMISSION INPUT DAMPER ASSEMBLY

  59. INSTALL ENGINE TO ENGINE STAND 
    1. Install the engine assembly to an engine stand.
  60. REMOVE ENGINE HANGER 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, No. 1 engine hanger and No. 2 engine hanger.
