Removal [10/2018 - 07/2022]: Procedure

  1. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  2. SECURE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Secure the steering wheel with the seat belt in order to prevent rotation.

      HINT: 

      This operation is useful to prevent damage to the spiral cable.

  3. REMOVE COLUMN HOLE COVER SILENCER SHEET 
    1. Peel back the front floor carpet to the extent that the column hole cover silencer sheet can be removed.
    2. Disengage the claw and open the column hole cover silencer sheet.

    3. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the column hole cover silencer sheet.

  4. SEPARATE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and steering gear assembly.

      Separate in this Direction
    2. Remove the bolt.
    3. Separate the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering gear assembly.
  5. SEPARATE NO. 1 STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Separate the clip (A), disengage the clip (B) from the vehicle body and separate the No. 1 steering column hole cover sub-assembly.
      NOTE:

      Do not damage the clips (A) or (B).

  6. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS 

    Refer to REMOVAL [10/2018 - ]

  7. REMOVE STEERING KNUCKLE SEAL 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

    1. Disengage the claw to remove the steering knuckle seal as shown in the illustration.

  8. SEPARATE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Remove the cotter pin and nut.

    2. Install SST to the tie rod end sub-assembly LH.

      • SST: 09960-20010 
        1. 09961-02060
      NOTE:

      Make sure that the upper ends of the tie rod end sub-assembly LH and SST are aligned.

    3. Secure SST using a string.
      NOTE:

      Be sure to tighten the string firmly to secure SST to the steering knuckle LH to prevent SST from falling off.

    4. Using SST, separate the tie rod end sub-assembly LH from the steering knuckle LH.
      • SST: 09960-20010

      Turn - -
      WARNING:

      Apply molybdenum grease to the bolt threads and the tip of SST.

      NOTE:
      • Be sure to tighten the string firmly to secure SST to the steering knuckle LH to prevent SST from falling off.
      • Install SST with the center nut so that (A) and (B) shown in the illustration are parallel. Otherwise, the ball joint dust cover may be damaged.
      • Be sure to place the wrench on the part shown in the illustration.
      • Do not damage the front disc brake dust cover.
      • Do not damage the ball joint dust cover.
      • Do not damage the steering knuckle LH.
  9. SEPARATE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

  10. REMOVE STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connector.

    2. Remove the bolt.
    3. Disengage the guide to separate the wiring harness clamp bracket from the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly.
    4. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

      NOTE:

      Because the nut has its own stopper, do not turn the nut. Loosen the bolt with the nut secured.

    5. Remove the No. 1 steering rack housing bracket from the steering link assembly.

    6. Remove the No. 1 steering column hole cover sub-assembly from the steering link assembly.

    7. Remove the steering link assembly as shown in the illustration.

      Remove in this Direction
  11. SECURE STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using SST, secure the steering link assembly in a vise.

      *a Protective Tape

      HINT: 

      Wrap SST with protective tape before use.

  12. REMOVE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Put matchmarks on the tie rod end sub-assembly LH and steering gear assembly.

    2. Remove the tie rod end sub-assembly LH and lock nut.
  13. REMOVE TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT: 

    Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.
