Removal [09/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  2. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  3. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work (Refer to PRECAUTION [09/2015 - ] ).

  4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    WARNING:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2015 - ] ).

  5. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS 
  6. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  7. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  8. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for AWD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  9. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for AWD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  10. REMOVE NO. 2 FRONT STABILIZER BRACKET RH (for AWD)

    1. Disconnect the 2 clamps.
    2. Remove the bolt and bracket.
  11. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER PROTECTOR LOWER (for 2WD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  12. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER PROTECTOR LOWER (for AWD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17

  13. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 STABILIZER BRACKET LH (for AWD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  14. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 STABILIZER BRACKET RH (for AWD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  15. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER BAR (for AWD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  16. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 STABILIZER BAR BUSH (for AWD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  17. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for AWD)

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and bracket.
  18. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY RH (for AWD)

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and bracket.
  19. DISCONNECT STEERING SLIDING WITH SHAFT YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  20. DISCONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  21. DISCONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Remove the clip and nut.
    2. Install 2 spacers (SST spacer B) onto the tie rod assembly LH so that there is a space of approximately 1 mm (0.0394 in.) between the arm and spacers.
      • SST: 09960-20010 
        • 09961-02060
      NOTE:
      • Make sure to install the spacers (SST spacer B) as the steering knuckle spacer may shift.
      • As SST may become damaged, make sure the space between the arm and spacers is not 1 mm (0.0394 in.) or less.

    3. Using SST, disconnect the tie rod assembly from the steering knuckle.
      • SST: 09960-20010 
        • 09961-02010
      NOTE:
      • Do not damage the dust cover.
      • As the dust cover may be damaged, adjust SST with the center nut so that the body and crow are the parallel.
      • Make sure to tie the string of SST to the vehicle to prevent SST from dropping.
  22. DISCONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT: 

    Use the same procedures described for the LH side.

  23. REMOVE POWER STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Detach the 3 clips and disconnect the 3 connectors.

    2. Remove the 4 bolts, 4 nuts and power steering link from the front frame and rack housing bracket.

  24. REMOVE POWER STEERING LINK ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 
    1. Detach the 2 clips, clamp and disconnect the 3 connectors.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts, 2 washers and power steering link from the front frame.

  25. REMOVE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT 
    1. Put the matchmarks on the intermediate shaft and power steering link.

    2. Remove the bolt and intermediate shaft from the power steering link.
