Removal [09/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  2. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  3. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work (Refer to PRECAUTION [09/2015 - ] ).

  4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Disable the AUTO TILT AWAY function by changing the customize parameter (Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [09/2015 - ] ).
      NOTE:

      Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the AUTO TILT AWAY function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing the operation.

      HINT: 

      Performing the above operation causes the AUTO TILT AWAY function to be disabled when the engine switch is turned off.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column.
    3. Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      WARNING:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2015 - ] ).

  5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [09/2015 - ] )

  6. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (w/o Driver Monitor Camera) 
    1. Remove the 3 screws.

    2. Detach the 2 claws to remove the steering column cover lower.
      NOTE:

      Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.

    3. Detach the 4 clips.

    4. Detach the claw to remove the steering column cover upper.
  7. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (w/ Driver Monitor Camera) 
    1. Remove the 3 screws.

    2. Detach the 2 claws to remove the steering column cover lower.
      NOTE:

      Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.

    3. Detach the 4 clips.

    4. Detach the claw to remove the steering column cover upper.
    5. Disconnect the driver monitor connector.
  8. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch with spiral cable.
    2. Using pliers, grip the claws of the clamp and remove the turn signal switch with spiral cable from the steering column.

  9. REMOVE NO. 1 LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [09/2015 - ] )

  10. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Detach the 2 claws and remove the wiring harness protector.

    2. Detach the 2 claws, and remove the bolt and air duct.

  11. REMOVE STEERING SLIDING WITH SHAFT YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Loosen bolt A and remove bolt B, and then steering sliding with shaft yoke.

      NOTE:
      • Do not remove bolt A.
      • Do not separate the steering sliding with shaft yoke from the steering link.
    2. Put matchmarks on the steering sliding with shaft yoke, No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and power steering link.

      *1 No. 2 steering intermediate shaft
      *2 Power steering link

    3. Separate the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft from the steering sliding with shaft yoke.
      1. Remove the bolt.
      2. Insert a screwdriver or equivalent into the hole in the yoke. Hold down the claw of the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and remove the steering sliding with shaft yoke from the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft.

        *2 No. 2 steering intermediate shaft

        HINT: 

        Even if the claw is damaged, the intermediate shaft does not have to be replaced.

    4. Separate the steering sliding with shaft yoke from the power steering link.
  12. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and steering column.

    2. Remove the bolt.
    3. Remove the clamp and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft.

  13. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 
    1. Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and steering column.

    2. Remove the bolt.

  14. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (TILT STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY WITH MOTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the connectors and wire harness clamps from the steering column.
    2. Remove the 4 nuts and steering column.
