Removal [09/2015 - ]: Procedure
- PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
- REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH
Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1
- PRECAUTION NOTE:
After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work (Refer to PRECAUTION [09/2015 - ] ).
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
- Disable the AUTO TILT AWAY function by changing the customize parameter (Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [09/2015 - ]
).NOTE:
Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the AUTO TILT AWAY function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing the operation.
HINT:
Performing the above operation causes the AUTO TILT AWAY function to be disabled when the engine switch is turned off.
- Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column.
- Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.WARNING:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
NOTE:When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2015 - ] ).
- Disable the AUTO TILT AWAY function by changing the customize parameter (Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [09/2015 - ]
).
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
(Refer to REMOVAL [09/2015 - ] )
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (w/o Driver Monitor Camera)
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (w/ Driver Monitor Camera)
- REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE NO. 1 LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
(Refer to REMOVAL [09/2015 - ] )
- REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE STEERING SLIDING WITH SHAFT YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)
- Loosen bolt A and remove bolt B, and then steering sliding with shaft yoke.TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION
*a Front of the vehicle NOTE:- Do not remove bolt A.
- Do not separate the steering sliding with shaft yoke from the steering link.
- Put matchmarks on the steering sliding with shaft yoke, No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and power steering link.TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION
*1 No. 2 steering intermediate shaft *2 Power steering link *a Matchmark - Separate the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft from the steering sliding with shaft yoke.
- Remove the bolt.
- Insert a screwdriver or equivalent into the hole in the yoke. Hold down the claw of the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and remove the steering sliding with shaft yoke from the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft.TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

Even if the claw is damaged, the intermediate shaft does not have to be replaced.
- Separate the steering sliding with shaft yoke from the power steering link.
- Loosen bolt A and remove bolt B, and then steering sliding with shaft yoke.
- REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)
- REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for AWD)
- Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and steering column.TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION
*a Matchmark - Remove the bolt.
- Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and power steering link.TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION
*a Matchmark - Remove the bolt.
- Remove the clamp and No. 2 steering intermediate shaft.
- Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft and steering column.
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (TILT STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY WITH MOTOR)
