Instrument Panel Safety Pad: Removal

  1. PRECAUTION 

    (See PRECAUTION  )

  2. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
    NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See INITIALIZATION ).
  4. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn the shift lever knob counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

  5. REMOVE UPPER NO. 1 CONSOLE PANEL GARNISH 
    1. Using a molding remover, disengage the claw.

    2. Pull the upper No 1 console panel garnish in the direction indicated by the arrow to disengage the 2 clips and remove it

  6. REMOVE UPPER NO. 2 CONSOLE PANEL GARNISH 
    1. Using a molding remover, disengage the claw.

    2. Pull the upper No. 2 console panel garnish in the direction indicated by the arrow to disengage the 2 clips and remove it.

  7. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 8 clips
    2. Disconnect the connectors and remove the console panel sub-assembly.

  8. REMOVE FRONT ASH RECEPTACLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 screws < E >.

    2. Pull the front ash receptacle assembly in the direction indicated by the arrow to disconnect the connectors and remove it.

  9. REMOVE REAR ASH RECEPTACLE ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )
  10. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )
  11. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX  (See REMOVAL  )
  12. REMOVE NO. 3 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 4 claws

      HINT

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Apply protective tape to the areas shown in the illustration.

    3. Using a molding remover, disengage the 4 claws starting from the right of the No. 3 instrument panel register assembly. Disengage the remaining 3 claws by pulling the No. 3 instrument panel register assembly by hand.
      NOTE: Do not pry the lower part of the No. 3 instrument panel register assembly. Doing so may damage the assembly.
    4. Disconnect the connectors.

  13. REMOVE CENTER LOWER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL 
    1. Disengage the 4 claws and remove the center lower instrument cluster finish panel

  14. REMOVE MULTI-DISPLAY WITH RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY (w/ Navigation System)  (See REMOVAL )
  15. REMOVE INTEGRATION CONTROL PANEL WITH RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY (w/o Navigation System)  (See REMOVAL )
  16. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  17. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  18. REMOVE STEERING PAD  (See REMOVAL )
  19. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  20. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  21. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  22. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH  (See REMOVAL  )
  23. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH  (See REMOVAL  )
  24. REMOVE SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL LH 
    1. Using a molding remover, disengage the 5 claws and 3 clips, and then remove the side instrument panel LH

  25. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 screws < D >
    2. Push the 2 claws in the direction indicated by the arrow to disengage them.
    3. Remove the No 1 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly from the guide as shown in the illustration and pull the cover toward the rear of the vehicle
    4. Disconnect the connectors and remove the No. 1 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly.

  26. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the 7 clips.
    2. Disconnect the connectors and remove the lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly.

  27. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  28. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 screws < F > and 2 clips, and then remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly.

  29. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 2 claws

      HINT

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use

    2. Disconnect the connectors and remove the combination meter assembly

  30. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH 

    HINT

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side (See REMOVAL  )

  31. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side (See REMOVAL  ).

  32. REMOVE SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL RH 
    1. Using a molding remover, disengage the 5 claws and 3 clips, and then remove the side instrument panel RH

  33. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a molding remover, disengage the 4 clips and remove the No 2 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly.

  34. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  35. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 5 screws < D >
    2. Disengage the 2 claws
    3. Disconnect the connectors and remove the glove compartment door assembly.

  36. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH  (See REMOVAL  )

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side (See REMOVAL  )

  38. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Pull the No 1 instrument panel register assembly in the direction indicated by the arrow to disengage the 7 claws and 2 clips, and then disconnect the connector and remove it

  39. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Pull the No. 2 instrument panel register assembly in the direction indicated by the arrow to disengage the 4 claws and 2 clips, and then disconnect the connector and remove it

  40. REMOVE NO. 3 INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 7 claws and 2 clips, and remove the No 3 instrument panel speaker panel sub-assembly

      HINT

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use

  41. REMOVE FRONT STEREO COMPONENT SPEAKER ASSEMBLY (w/ Front Center Speaker)  (See REMOVAL )
  42. REMOVE NO. 2 CONSOLE BOX DUCT 
    1. Remove the 2 clips and No 2 console box duct.

  43. REMOVE NO. 1 CONSOLE BOX DUCT 
    1. Remove the clip and No. 1 console box duct.

  44. DISCONNECT INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  45. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disengage the clamps.
    2. Disconnect the connectors
    3. Disengage the 2 claws and separate the cooler thermistor

    4. Remove the 6 bolts < C > and nut < G >.
    5. Remove the 2 passenger airbag bolts < A > or < B >
    6. Disengage the 2 clamps.
    7. Disengage the 5 claws and remove the instrument panel safety pad assembly.

  46. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLIP 
    1. Disengage the 4 claws and remove the 4 instrument panel clips.

  47. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL STAY 
    1. Disengage the claw and remove the instrument panel stay.
