Rear Differential Carrier Assembly: Removal

  1. REMOVE REAR WHEELS 
  2. DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL 
    1. Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the differential filler plug and gasket.
    2. Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the differential drain plug and gasket, and drain the oil.
  3. REMOVE NO. 2 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE NO. 1 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR 

    HINT:

    Perform the same procedure as the No. 2 differential support protector.

  5. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE LH  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE RH 

    HINT:

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side.

  7. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT WITH CENTER BEARING ASSEMBLY 

    (See REMOVAL )

  8. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT LH  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT RH 

    HINT:

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side

  10. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH  (See DISASSEMBLY )
  11. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT:

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side.

  12. REMOVE REAR DISC (for LH Side)  (See REMOVAL )
  13. REMOVE REAR DISC (for RH Side) 

    HINT:

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side

  14. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR LH  (See REMOVAL  )
  15. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR RH 

    HINT:

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side.

  16. SEPARATE NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and disengage the 2 clamps.

    3. Separate the No 3 parking brake cable assembly from the parking brake equalizer
  17. SEPARATE NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY 

    HINT

    Perform the same procedure as the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly

  18. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL )
  19. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side.

  20. REMOVE TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL )
  21. REMOVE TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side

  22. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY (for LH Side)  (See REMOVAL )
  23. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY (for RH Side) 

    HINT

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side

  24. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY (for LH Side)  (See REMOVAL )
  25. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY (for RH Side) 

    HINT

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side.

  26. LOOSEN REAR SHOCK ABSORBER BOLT (for LH Side)  (See REMOVAL )
  27. LOOSEN REAR SHOCK ABSORBER BOLT (for RH Side) 

    HINT.

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side

  28. SEPARATE REAR STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL )
  29. SEPARATE REAR STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT.

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side.

  30. SEPARATE REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL  )
  31. SEPARATE REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT.

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side

  32. REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL  )
  33. REMOVE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT.

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side

  34. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL )
  35. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT

    Perform the same procedure as the LH side.

  36. REMOVE HOLE SNAP RING  (See REMOVAL )
  37. REMOVE REAR STABILIZER BAR  (See REMOVAL )
  38. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Support the rear differential carrier assembly with a jack.
      NOTE: Do not drop the differential carrier.
    2. Using a hexagon wrench (12 mm), remove the 3 hexagon bolts

    3. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 lower rear differential mount stoppers and rear differential carrier assembly
    4. Remove the 2 upper rear differential mount stoppers from rear differential carrier assembly
      NOTE: Make sure not to install the upper and lower rear differential mount stoppers upside down.
