Rear Brake Pad, Brake Caliper & Brake Rotor: Removal

HINT
- Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
- The following procedure is for the LH side.
- REMOVE REAR WHEEL
- DRAIN BRAKE FLUID NOTE: Immediately wash off any brake fluid that comes into contact with any painted surfaces.
- DISCONNECT REAR FLEXIBLE HOSE
- Remove the union bolt and gasket, and disconnect the rear flexible hose from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.
- REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD NOTE: Be sure to inspect the rear disc when replacing the brake pads with new ones (See INSPECTION ).
- Using a pin punch (5 mm) and a hammer, push out the pad guide pin (upper) and disengage the ring of the pad guide pin from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly as shown in the illustrationNOTE: Do not damage the disc brake cylinder surface.
- Holding the anti-rattle spring, remove the pad guide pin (upper) from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly
- Remove the anti-rattle spring from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.
- Using a pin punch (5 mm) and a hammer, remove the pad guide pin (lower) from the rear disc brake cylinder assemblyNOTE: Do not damage the disc brake cylinder surface.
- Remove the 2 rear disc brake pads with anti-squeal shims from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly
- Using a pin punch (5 mm) and a hammer, push out the pad guide pin (upper) and disengage the ring of the pad guide pin from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly as shown in the illustration
- REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM
- Remove the 2 rear disc brake anti-squeal shims from each pad
- REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 2 bolts and rear disc brake cylinder assembly from the rear axle carrier
- REMOVE REAR DISC
- Put matchmarks on the rear disc and rear axle hub.
- Release the parking brake and remove the rear disc
HINT.
If the disc cannot be removed easily, turn and press firmly the shoe adjuster until the wheel comes free.
