Instrument Panel Safety Pad: Removal

  1. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT 

    HINT:

    All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet code in the table below.

  2. SET RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY TO SHIPMENT MODE 
    1. Take out all discs and tape.
      NOTE: If the discs or tape cannot be taken out, do not attempt to take them out forcibly. Send the unit to a repair shop.
    2. Turn the power switch OFF.
    3. While simultaneously pressing the "SEEK UP" and "DISC" switches, turn the power switch ON (ACC).

      HINT:

      The CD loading door indicator light blinks during mode setting and it remains lit after the setting is completed.

    4. Turn the power switch OFF.

  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  4. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER RH  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER  (See REMOVAL )
  9. REMOVE NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER  (See REMOVAL )
  10. REMOVE STEERING PAD  (See REMOVAL )
  11. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  12. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER LOWER  (See REMOVAL )
  13. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER UPPER  (See REMOVAL )
  14. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE WITH STEERING SENSOR  (See REMOVAL )
  15. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  16. REMOVE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  17. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH 
    1. Using a clip remover, detach the claws and remove the garnish.

      HINT:

      Tape the clip remover tip before use.

  18. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Twist the shift lever knob in the direction indicated by the arrow and remove it.

    2. Using a screwdriver, detach the 9 clips.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    3. Remove the console upper panel and then disconnect the connector.

  19. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH 
    1. Remove the screw.
    2. Using a screwdriver, detach the 3 clips and 3 claws.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    3. Remove the finish panel end.

  20. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH 
    1. Remove the screw.
    2. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips and 3 claws.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    3. Remove the finish panel end.

  21. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX PLATE 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Remove the console box plate and then disconnect the connector.

  22. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips and remove the register.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  23. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and 2 screws.
    2. Remove the console box and then disconnect the connector.

  24. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 5 clips.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Remove the cluster finish panel and then disconnect the connector.

  25. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 screws.
    2. Disconnect the connector and remove the combination meter.

  26. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL RH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and 4 clips, and remove the side panel.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  27. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and 4 clips, and remove the side panel.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  28. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.
    2. Detach the 3 claws.
    3. Remove the under cover and then disconnect the connectors.

  29. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 8 clips and claw.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Remove the hood lock control cable from the safety pad.
    3. Remove the safety pad.
  30. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  31. REMOVE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.
    2. Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    4. Remove the control panel and then disconnect the connector.
  32. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips.

      HINT:

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Disconnect the connector and clamp, and remove the under cover.
  33. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  34. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 screws.
    2. Detach the 2 clips and claw.
    3. Disconnect the connector and clamp.
    4. Remove the glove compartment door.

  35. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH  (See REMOVAL )
  36. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH  (See REMOVAL )
  37. REMOVE MULTI-DISPLAY WITH RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  38. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. w/ Navigation System: Remove the navigation ECU.
      1. Remove the 3 bolts and navigation ECU.
      2. Disconnect the connectors.
    2. Remove the 4 nuts and center junction block RH and LH.
    3. Remove the 4 bolts, nut and 2 clips.
    4. Remove the 2 bolts from the passenger airbag.
    5. Disconnect the connectors and clamps.

    6. Detach the 5 clips and remove the safety pad.
