Instrument Panel Safety Pad: Removal
- TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT
HINT:
All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet code in the table below.
- SET RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY TO SHIPMENT MODE
- Take out all discs and tape.NOTE: If the discs or tape cannot be taken out, do not attempt to take them out forcibly. Send the unit to a repair shop.
- Turn the power switch OFF.
- While simultaneously pressing the "SEEK UP" and "DISC" switches, turn the power switch ON (ACC).
HINT:
The CD loading door indicator light blinks during mode setting and it remains lit after the setting is completed.
- Turn the power switch OFF.
- Take out all discs and tape.
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

- REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER RH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STEERING PAD (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER LOWER (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER UPPER (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE WITH STEERING SENSOR (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH
- Using a clip remover, detach the claws and remove the garnish.
HINT:
Tape the clip remover tip before use.
- Using a clip remover, detach the claws and remove the garnish.
- REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY
- Twist the shift lever knob in the direction indicated by the arrow and remove it.
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 9 clips.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the console upper panel and then disconnect the connector.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH
- Remove the screw.
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 3 clips and 3 claws.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the finish panel end.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
- Remove the screw.
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips and 3 claws.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the finish panel end.
- REMOVE CONSOLE BOX PLATE
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the console box plate and then disconnect the connector.
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips.
- REMOVE CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips and remove the register.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips and remove the register.
- REMOVE CONSOLE BOX
- Remove the 4 bolts and 2 screws.
- Remove the console box and then disconnect the connector.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 5 clips.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the cluster finish panel and then disconnect the connector.
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 5 clips.
- REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 4 screws.
- Disconnect the connector and remove the combination meter.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL RH
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and 4 clips, and remove the side panel.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and 4 clips, and remove the side panel.
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and 4 clips, and remove the side panel.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and 4 clips, and remove the side panel.
- REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 2 screws.
- Detach the 3 claws.
- Remove the under cover and then disconnect the connectors.
- REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 8 clips and claw.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the hood lock control cable from the safety pad.
- Remove the safety pad.
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 8 clips and claw.
- REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 2 screws.
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 2 claws.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Remove the control panel and then disconnect the connector.

- REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips.
HINT:
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
- Disconnect the connector and clamp, and remove the under cover.
- Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips.
- REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the 4 screws.
- Detach the 2 clips and claw.
- Disconnect the connector and clamp.
- Remove the glove compartment door.
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE MULTI-DISPLAY WITH RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
- w/ Navigation System: Remove the navigation ECU.
- Remove the 3 bolts and navigation ECU.
- Disconnect the connectors.
- Remove the 4 nuts and center junction block RH and LH.
- Remove the 4 bolts, nut and 2 clips.
- Remove the 2 bolts from the passenger airbag.
- Disconnect the connectors and clamps.
- Detach the 5 clips and remove the safety pad.
- w/ Navigation System: Remove the navigation ECU.
