Instrument Panel Safety Pad Sub-ASSY: Replacement

  1. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT 

    HINT:

    The bolts, screws and nuts, which are necessary for installation and removal of the instrument panel are shown in the illustration below and the text with alphabets.

  2. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL (See  PRECAUTION  ) 
  3. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PLATE 
    1. Remove the instrument panel finish plate.

  4. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts < B > .
    2. Disconnect the hood lock control cable assembly and fuel lid lock control cable sub-assembly.
    3. Disengage the 4 clips.
    4. Disconnect the connectors and remove the instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly lower.

  5. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSY 
    1. Disengage the 5 clips and 2 claws, and remove the console upper rear panel, and then disconnect the connectors.

  6. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSY UPPER 
    1. Disengage the 6 clips and 2 claws, and then remove the console panel sub-assembly upper.
      NOTE: Be careful not to snap the claws during the operation.

  7. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH NO. 1 
    1. Disengage the clip.
    2. Pull the console upper panel garnish No. 1 rearward to be removed.

  8. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH NO. 2 
  9. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSY 
    1. Remove the screw.

    2. Disengage the 4 clips and remove the air conditioner, and then disconnect the connectors.

  10. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY CENTER 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts < C >.
    2. Disengage the 8 clips and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly center.

  11. REMOVE RADIO RECEIVER ASSY W/BRACKET (See appropriate step(s) under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  12. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO. 2 
  13. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER NO. 3 
  14. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSY (See appropriate step(s) under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  15. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSY (See appropriate step(s) under  OVERHAUL  ) 

    SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021)

  16. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER UPR (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  17. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSY W/SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSY (See  OVERHAUL  ) 
  18. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL LOWER LH 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts < B >.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the instrument panel lower LH.

  19. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSY 
    1. Disengage the 7 clips.
    2. Disconnect the connectors and remove the instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly.

  20. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    1. Remove the 3 screws < G >.
    2. Loosen the 2 bolts and remove the combination meter assembly.

  21. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSY REAR 
    1. Disconnect the connectors.
    2. Remove the 6 bolts < B > and console box assembly rear.

  22. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH (See appropriate step(s) under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  23. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD RH 
    1. Remove the clip.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the cowl side trim board RH.

  24. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSY NO. 2 
    1. Remove the screw < E >.
    2. Disengage the 3 clips and remove the instrument panel under cover sub-assembly No. 2.

  25. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR SUB-ASSY 
    1. Remove the screw < F > and glove compartment door.
    2. Deform the upper part of the glove compartment door to release the stoppers.
    3. Pull the glove compartment door upward to remove it.

  26. DISCONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR (See appropriate step(s) under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  27. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL LOWER NO. 2 
    1. Remove the 4 screws < E >.
    2. Disengage the 2 claws and remove the instrument panel finish panel.

  28. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSY NO. 2 
    1. Remove the screw < G >.
    2. Disengage the 2 clips and 2 claws, and then remove the instrument panel register assembly No. 2.

  29. REMOVE ASSIST GRIP SUB-ASSY (See appropriate step(s) under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  30. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (See appropriate step(s) under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  31. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (See appropriate step(s) under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  32. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY W/PASSENGER AIR BAG ASSY 
    1. Remove the 9 bolts < A > < B > < C > and nut < H >.
    2. Disconnect the connectors.
    3. Remove the instrument panel safety pad sub-assembly.

  33. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER PANEL SUB-ASSY NO. 1 (W/ PREMIUM SOUND SYSTEM) 
    1. Using a molding remover, disengage the 4 clips and remove the instrument panel speaker panel subassembly No. 1.
  34. REMOVE STEREO COMPONENT SPEAKER ASSY FRONT (W/ PREMIUM SOUND SYSTEM) 
    1. Remove the 2 screws < D > and the stereo component speaker assembly front.
  35. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL PIN NO. 1 
    1. Remove the screw < D > and the instrument panel pin No. 1.
  36. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSY 
    1. Remove the 2 screws < D > and the defroster nozzle assembly.
  37. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO. 2 
    1. Remove the 5 screws < D > and the heater to register duct No. 2.
  38. REMOVE METER HOOD RETAINER NO. 1 
    1. Remove the screw < D > and the meter hood retainer No. 1.
  39. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACKET SUB-ASSY CENTER 
    1. Remove the screw < D > and the instrument panel bracket sub-assembly center.
  40. REMOVE AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SENSOR (W/ LIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM) 
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2. Remove the automatic light control sensor.
  41. REMOVE COOLER (SOLAR SENSOR) THERMISTOR 
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2. Remove the cooler (solar sensor) thermistor.
  42. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE NO. 2 
  43. REMOVE ANTENNA CORD SUB-ASSY (See appropriate step(s) under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  44. REMOVE NAVIGATION ANTENNA ASSY (W/ NAVIGATION SYSTEM) (See appropriate step(s) under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  45. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL GARNISH 
    1. Remove the 3 screws < D > and the instrument cluster finish panel garnish.
  46. REMOVE INSTR PNL PASS L/DOOR AIR BAG ASSY (See appropriate step(s) under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  47. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY 
  48. INSTALL INSTR PNL PASS L/DOOR AIR BAG ASSY (See appropriate step(s) under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  49. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSY W/PASSENGER AIR BAG ASSY 
    1. Using a torque wrench, install the bolt < A >.

      Torque: 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)

  50. INSTALL COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    1. Pull the positions in the arrow mark direction to make the check pins unseen form the surface as shown in Fig 21.

    2. Check that the connector on the instrument panel side is in place.
    3. Install the combination meter assembly with the 3 screws.
    4. Tightening the screw and check that the check pin protrudes.

  51. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSY (See appropriate step(s) under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  52. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSY (See appropriate step(s) under  OVERHAUL  ) 
  53. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSY (See appropriate step(s) under  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  54. INSPECT HORN BUTTON ASSY (See appropriate step(s) under  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
  55. INCLINATION SENSOR ZERO DEGREE CORRECTION (See  COMBINATION METER ASSY  ) 
  56. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT (See  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM  )
