Inspection And Verification: Notes
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
WARNING:
- The following tests may involve working in close proximity to hot components. Make sure adequate protection is used. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
- The turbocharger can continue to rotate after the engine has stopped. Do not attempt to check the turbocharger until one minute has elapsed since the engine was switched off. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.
CAUTION:
- Do not insert anything into the turbocharger housing, attempt to apply force to the blades and/or shaft or remove/tighten the compressor nut.
- Diagnosis by substitution from a donor vehicle is NOT acceptable. Substitution of control modules does not guarantee confirmation of a fault, and may also cause additional faults in the vehicle being tested and/or the donor vehicle.
NOTE:
- If a control module or a component is at fault and the vehicle remains under manufacturer warranty, refer to the Warranty Policy and Procedures information, or determine if any prior approval program is in operation, prior to the installation of a new module/component.
- When performing voltage or resistance tests, always use a digital multimeter accurate to three decimal places, and with an up-to-date calibration certificate. When testing resistance always take the resistance of the digital multimeter leads into account.
- Check and rectify basic faults before beginning diagnostic routines involving pinpoint tests.
- Verify the concern of the customer: Request a detailed description of the concern from the customer. In case of noise issues, the customer may help identify over which speed range the noise occurred (e.g. 1000 to 2000 RPM or over 2000 rpm). In the case of the high spec engine the low pressure turbocharger it isn't operational from 1000 to 2000 RPM. The retailer should perform further tests to confirm the speed range of concern.
- Verify the symptom and refer to the Symptom Chart, alternatively check for Diagnostic Trouble Code(s) (DTC) and refer to the DTC Index
- Check JLR claims submission system for open campaigns. Refer to the corresponding bulletins and SSMs which may be valid for the specific customer complaint and complete the recommendations as required.
