Pinpoint Test J: Test The Operation Of Low Pressure Turbocharger WASTEGATE And Bypass Valve Actuator
- J1: TEST THE OPERATION OF LOW PRESSURE TURBOCHARGER WASTEGATE AND BYPASS VALVE ACTUATOR
- Make sure the engine is turned off.
- For testing the operation of Low Pressure Turbocharger Wastegate and Bypass Valve Actuator, a hand vacuum pump is required.
- Before proceeding with the Bypass Valve and Wastegate actuator tests, check the integrity of the Bypass and Wastegate Vacuum Pipes.
- If the vacuum pipes are worn, damaged and/or leaking, replace before proceeding with the test.
- Disconnect the vacuum pipe that connects the wastegate actuator to the wastegate solenoid and connect the hand vacuum pump to the wastegate actuator
- Generate a vacuum pressure until the Wastegate actuator is fully actuated and pressure is maintained.
Did the Turbocharger Wastegate actuator fully actuate and pressure maintained for 20sec?
Yes: GO to J2.
No: Replace the Low Pressure Turbocharger (Fixed Geometry Turbocharger) and clear DTC . Refer to: LOW PRESSURE TURBOCHARGER - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL - HIGH POWER (G1914799)
- J2: TEST THE OPERATION OF LOW PRESSURE TURBOCHARGER WASTEGATE AND BYPASS VALVE ACTUATOR
- Reconnect the vacuum pipe that connects the wastegate actuator to the wastegate solenoid and disconnect the vacuum pipe that connects the turbine bypass valve to the TBV solenoid. Connect the hand vacuum pump to the bypass valve actuator.
- Generate a vacuum pressure until the Bypass Valve actuator is fully actuated and pressure is maintained.
Did the Turbocharger Bypass Valve actuator fully actuate and pressure maintained for 20sec?
Yes: GO to J3.
No: Replace the Low Pressure Turbocharger (Fixed Geometry Turbocharger) and clear DTC . Refer to: LOW PRESSURE TURBOCHARGER - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL - HIGH POWER (G1914799)
- Reconnect the vacuum pipe that connects the wastegate actuator to the wastegate solenoid and disconnect the vacuum pipe that connects the turbine bypass valve to the TBV solenoid. Connect the hand vacuum pump to the bypass valve actuator.
- J3: TEST THE OPERATION OF LOW PRESSURE TURBOCHARGER WASTEGATE AND BYPASS VALVE ACTUATOR
- Reconnect the vacuum pipes
Is an engine performance fault still present?
Yes: GO to J4.
No: Turbo, EGR , DPF , Throttle Valve and Air-Path Tests Complete. If a performance fault persists, contact the JLR local help desk and raise a TA
- Reconnect the vacuum pipes
- J4: TEST THE OPERATION OF LOW PRESSURE TURBOCHARGER WASTEGATE AND BYPASS VALVE ACTUATOR
- Replace the Passive Bypass Valve and check if the fault persists Refer to the appropriate repair information.
Is an engine performance fault still present?
Yes: Replace the Low Pressure Turbocharger (Fixed Geometry Turbocharger) and clear DTC . Refer to: LOW PRESSURE TURBOCHARGER - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL - HIGH POWER (G1914799)
No: Turbo, EGR , DPF , Throttle Valve and Air-Path Tests Complete.
- Replace the Passive Bypass Valve and check if the fault persists Refer to the appropriate repair information.
