Test NS-2A - Inspecting Fuel System

WARNING: High fuel pressure may be present in fuel lines. Open fuel system with caution. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE  procedure in this article.
NOTE: Perform TEST NS-1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  at beginning of article. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
  1. Ensure throttle cables are not holding throttle open. If throttle is held open, repair as necessary. If throttle is not held open, using scan tool, read Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) voltage.
  2. If voltage is less than 1.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 1.5 volts, disconnect TPS 3-pin connector. Ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Repair as necessary. If terminals are okay, replace TPS.
  3. If vehicle is not equipped with a factory installed anti-theft system, go to next step. If vehicle is equipped with factory installed anti-theft system, using scan tool, read anti-theft system status. If scan tool displays FUEL ON, go to next step. If scan tool does not display FUEL ON, see TESTS W/CODES - BODY CONTROL COMPUTER article in this section.
  4. Using scan tool, run ASD fuel system actuation test. Listen for fuel pump operation at fuel tank. If fuel pump operation cannot be heard, go to TEST NS-5A  . If fuel pump operation can be heard, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Using scan tool, stop ASD fuel system actuation test. Ensure fuel tank is at least 1/4 full. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE  procedure in this article. Install a fuel pressure gauge in fuel rail test port. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate fuel system. Read fuel pressure gauge.
  6. If fuel pressure is more than 44 psi (3.1 kg/cm2 ), proceed to TEST NS-4B  . If pressure is less than 34 psi (2.3 kg/cm2 ), proceed to TEST NS-4A  . If pressure is 34-44 psi (2.3-3.1 kg/cm2 ), go to next step.
  7. If vehicle initially started and stalled repeatedly, go to TEST NS-7A  . If vehicle did not initially start and stall repeatedly, go to TEST NS-3A  .
