Test NS-4B - Correcting Fuel Delivery

WARNING: High fuel pressure may be present in fuel lines. Open fuel system with caution. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE  procedure in this article.
NOTE: Perform TEST NS-2A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  at beginning of article. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
  1. On XJ and YJ bodies, go to next step. On ZJ body, if fuel pressure was more than 44 psi (3.1 kg/cm2 ) in TEST NS-2A, replace fuel pressure regulator in fuel tank module.
  2. On XJ and YJ bodies, ensure fuel tank is at least 1/4 full. Turn ignition off. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE  in this article. Disconnect fuel return hose from fuel rail. Connect a 6-foot fuel hose to fuel rail return line. Put other end of 6-foot hose into an approved gasoline container with at least a 2-gallon capacity.
  3. Ensure fuel pressure gauge is still installed. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate ASD fuel system. If pressure is less than 44 psi (3.1 kg/cm2 ), go to next step. If pressure is more than 44 psi (3.1 kg/cm2 ), release fuel pressure and replace fuel pressure regulator.
  4. Stop ASD fuel system. Turn ignition off. Release fuel pressure and reconnect fuel return hose. Remove fuel return hose from fuel tank. Connect Fuel Pressure Test Adapter (C-6541) to disconnected return hose.
  5. Put other end of adapter hose into an approved gasoline container with at least a 2-gallon capacity. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate ASD fuel system. Read fuel pressure gauge. Using scan tool, stop ASD fuel system actuation. If pressure is less than 44 psi (3.1 kg/cm2 ), repair restricted fuel pump module. If pressure is more than 44 psi (3.1 kg/cm2 ), repair restricted fuel return line between fuel rail and fuel tank.
