Electric Powertrain Symptom Troubleshooting Index

When the vehicle has one of these symptoms, check for a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) with the HDS. If there is no DTC, do the diagnostic procedure for the symptom in the sequence listed until you find the cause.

Symptom Diagnostic procedure Also check for
Vehicle does not go into READY TO DRIVE mode, and HDS does not communicate with the PCM (POWER SYSTEM indicator comes on and stays on) Troubleshoot the PCM power and ground circuits .
  • No power to PCM
  • No ground to PCM
  • Short in reference voltage circuit
POWER SYSTEM indicator stays on, no DTCs set Symptom troubleshooting .  
POWER SYSTEM indicator never comes on, no DTCs set Symptom troubleshooting .  
12 volt charging system indicator stays on, no DTCs set Symptom troubleshooting .  
12 volt charging system indicator comes on faintly, no DTCs set Symptom troubleshooting .  
12 volt charging system indicator never comes on, no DTCs set Symptom troubleshooting .  
The word (High Voltage Battery Charge Too Low, Vehicle Cannot Start) is indicated on the multi-information display Symptom troubleshooting .  
Vehicle will not operate on either electric motor or gasoline engine (POWER SYSTEM indicator works OK, no DTCs set, immobilizer indicator stays on or flashes) Check the immobilizer system .  
HDS does not communicate with the Electric Powertrain System Troubleshoot the DLC circuit . Correct HDS software
