Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-134a)Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf)
  3. Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)
  4. Remove Intake Manifold Insulator - Intake Manifold Insulator Replacement (LGX) 
  5. Remove the front compartment front sight shield. Front Compartment Front Sight Shield Replacement (Sedan)Front Compartment Front Sight Shield Replacement (Coupe)Front Compartment Front Sight Shield Replacement (ATS-V)
  6. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (LGX)

  7. Remove the battery terminal (1) from the jump start post.
  8. Remove Engine Control Module Bracket - Engine Control Module Bracket Replacement (LGX)
  9. Reposition the engine harness on the engine.

  18. Disconnect Power Brake Booster Vacuum Sensor@Power Brake Booster Vacuum Hose (1)
  19. Disconnect Power Brake Booster Vacuum Hose (1) @Power Brake Booster
  20. Using mechanics wire, support the radiator assembly to the vehicle body.

  24. Disconnect Electrical Connector (1) @Transmission Control Module - Transmission Control Module Replacement
  25. Detach the transmission control harness retainer (2) from the bracket.
  26. Disconnect Electrical Connector@Air Conditioning Refrigerant Pressure Sensor - Air Conditioning (A/C) Refrigerant Pressure Sensor Replacement (LF4, LGX)
  27. Disconnect Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe@Radiator Assembly - Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LGX With RWD, Without V03)Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LGX With RWD, With V03)

  28. Disconnect Harness Connector (1)
  29. Position the harness (2) onto the engine.
  30. Prepare the transmission for removal. Transmission Replacement (M5N with LGX Engine)
  31. Remove Catalytic Converter - Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LGX) , and Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LGX)
    32. NOTE:

    Removing the powertrain assembly from the vehicle could cause an unstable balance condition with the vehicle body on the vehicle hoist. Securing the vehicle body to the hoist is necessary.

  32. Secure the vehicle body to the vehicle hoist using suitable straps or binders.
    33. NOTE:

    The powertrain assembly will be removed from vehicle on the drivetrain and front suspension frame. In the next step, only perform the necessary procedures required to remove the powertrain assembly.

  33. Remove the drivetrain and front suspension cradle with the powertrain attached. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LGX, LTG)
  34. Lower the powertrain onto a suitable support table.
  35. Secure the powertrain to the support table using straps and binders.
  36. With the aid of an assistant, carefully raise the body from the frame.
  37. Ensure when raising the body the following items are clear from the frame:
    • Vacuum lines
    • Steering knuckles
    • Electrical wiring harnesses
    • Oil cooler lines
  38. Separate the engine from the transmission. Transmission Replacement (M5N with LGX Engine)
