Installation Procedure

  1. Install the engine to the transmission. Transmission Replacement (M3L)Transmission Replacement (MG9) .
  2. Place the powertrain and frame assembly on the engine support table.
  3. Secure the powertrain to the support table using straps and binders.
  4. With the aid of an assistant, carefully lower the body onto the powertrain assembly.
  5. Ensure when lowering the body the following items are clear from the frame:
    • Vacuum lines
    • Steering knuckles
    • Electrical wiring harnesses
    • Oil cooler lines
  6. Install the drivetrain and front suspension cradle with the powertrain attached. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LF4) .
  7. Remove the engine support table.
  8. Install the catalytic converter(s). Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LF4) , and Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LF4) .
  9. Connect the hydraulic clutch hose/pipe from the clutch slave cylinder. Hydraulic Clutch Hose/Pipe Replacement (M3L)Hydraulic Clutch Hose/Pipe Replacement (MG9)
  10. Complete installation of the transmission. Transmission Replacement (M3L)Transmission Replacement (MG9) .

  11. Connect the oil cooler inlet (2) and oil cooler outlet (3) hoses to the engine oil cooler.
  12. Connect the A/C lines to the compressor.
  13. install the propeller shaft to the transmission. Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (LF4)
  14. Attach the electronic suspension wiring harness to the cradle and front strut assembly and connect the wiring harness connector.
  15. Install the mid line left and right transmission cooler pipes.   16. Install the transmission fluid cooler lines to the radiator. Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LF4 With MG9)Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LF4 With M5U) .
  17. Install the front wheelhouse splash shield. Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive) .
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Connect the heater inlet hose to the heater core tube.
  20. Connect the heater outlet hose to the heater core tube.
  21. Connect the heater outlet to surge tank hose.

  22. Connect the fuel feed line quick connect to the fuel feed pipe. Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  23. Install the plenum front panel. Plenum Front Panel Replacement
  24. Install the air cleaner outlet duct. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (LF4)

  25. Connect the vacuum booster check valve (1) to the vacuum booster.
  26. Connect the evaporative emission purge solenoid hose.
  27. Remove mechanics wire that supported the radiator assembly to the vehicle body.
  28. Reposition and connect harnesses as necessary.
  29. Connect the heater outlet to surge tank hose.
  30. Connect the heater outlet hose to the heater core tube.
  31. Connect the heater inlet hose to the heater core tube.

  32. Install the battery terminals (1) to the jump start post junction block.
  33. Install the engine control module bracket. Engine Control Module Bracket Replacement (LF4)
  34. Connect the ECM connectors (2).

  36. Install the 4 fasteners (1) for the transmission shift control assembly. Tighten fasteners to 12 N.m (9 lb ft).
  37. Install the air cleaner assembly. Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (LF4) .
  38. Connect the radiator surge tank hose to the water outlet. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Replacement (LF4) .
  39. Connect the charge air coolant hose - engine to radiator to the supercharger water manifold. Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose Replacement - Radiator to Manifold (LF4) .
  40. Connect the charge air coolant hose to the supercharger water manifold. Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose Replacement - Radiator to Manifold (LF4) .
  41. Install the radiator outlet hose. Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LF4) .
  42. Install the radiator inlet hose. Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LF4) .
  43. Connect the negative battery cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  44. Fill the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) .
  45. Fill the crankcase with the proper quantity and grade of engine oil., and Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers (LF4) .
    46. NOTE:

    Prelube is necessary if the engine is replaced or overhauled.

  46. If the engine is replaced with a new engine or has been overhauled, perform the Engine Prelubing procedure. Engine Prelubing .
