Pinpoint Test K: Odd Clutch Pressure Control Solenoids

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The TR9070 uses 2 clutches, the even clutch and the odd clutch, to transmit engine power to the gearbox. Each clutch directs power to 4 gears in the transmission. The clutches are controlled by hydraulic pressure from the clutch control valve body. Pressure control solenoid "A", also called the odd clutch pressure control valve (OCPV), and pressure control solenoid "C", also called the odd redundant shut-off valve (ORSV), are used to engage and disengage the odd gear clutch. Pressure control solenoid "F", also called the odd clutch cooling flow control valve (OCFV), controls fluid flow to the transmission fluid cooler. All 3 odd clutch control valves receive power from the TCM through the transmission solenoid power control 1 (TSPC1) circuit. The TCM controls each solenoid through dedicated low side drivers.

DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition TCM P0960:00 Pressure Control Solenoid 'A' Control Circuit/Open: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects an open in the odd clutch pressure control valve (OCPV) circuit. TCM P0962:00 Pressure Control Solenoid 'A' Control Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects an open or a short to ground in the odd clutch pressure control valve (OCPV) circuit. TCM P0963:00 Pressure Control Solenoid 'A' Control Circuit High: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects a short to power in the odd clutch pressure control valve (OCPV) circuit. TCM P0968:00 Pressure Control Solenoid 'C' Control Circuit/Open: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects an open in the odd clutch redundant shut-off valve (ORSV) circuit. TCM P0970:00 Pressure Control Solenoid 'C' Control Circuit Low: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects an open or a short to ground in the odd clutch redundant shut-off valve (ORSV) circuit. TCM P0971:00 Pressure Control Solenoid 'C' Control Circuit High: No Sub Type Information The TCM sets this DTC when it detects a short to power in the odd clutch redundant shut-off valve (ORSV) circuit. - K1 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID POWER CONTROL 1 (TSPC1) CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect Transmission C1575B .
- Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1575B-7 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to K5 No GO to K2 - K2 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID POWER CONTROL 1 (TSPC1) CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect TCM C1750B .
- Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to K3 No REPAIR the circuit. - K3 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID POWER CONTROL 1 (TSPC1) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1575B-7 Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new TCM. REFER to: Transmission Control Module (TCM) No GO to K4 - Measure:
- K4 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID POWER CONTROL 1 (TSPC1) CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE TRANSMISSION DISCONNECTED
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect Transmission C1575A .
- Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C1575B-7 Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new transmission. REFER to: Transmission No REPAIR the circuit. - K5 CHECK THE ODD CLUTCH CONTROL VALVE CONTROL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect TCM C1750B .
- Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
- For the odd clutch pressure control valve (OCPV), measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms on the suspect circuit?
Yes GO to K6 No REPAIR the circuit. - K6 CHECK THE ODD CLUTCH CONTROL VALVE CONTROL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- For the odd clutch pressure control valve (OCPV), measure:

Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms on the suspect circuit?
Yes GO to K7 No REPAIR the circuit. - For the odd clutch pressure control valve (OCPV), measure:
- K7 CHECK THE ODD CLUTCH CONTROL VALVE CONTROL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER WITH THE TRANSMISSION POWER CIRCUITS
- For the odd clutch pressure control valve (OCPV), measure:

- For the odd clutch cooling flow control valve (OCFV), measure:

Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms on the suspect circuit?
Yes GO to K8 No REPAIR the circuit. - For the odd clutch pressure control valve (OCPV), measure:
- K8 RECHECK THE TCM (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
- Ignition OFF.
- Connect all connectors that have been disconnected. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the TCM.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the TCM self-test.
Did the DTC return?
Yes INSTALL a new transmission. REFER to: Transmission No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
