Section 22 (Automatic Transmission - 7-Speed Automatic Transmission - Tr9070 (Diagnosis And Testing, General Procedures, Removal And Installation)): Removal: Transmission

Special Tool(s) / General Equipment 

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview
2. Remove the bolts and position the degas bottle aside.

   Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

3. Remove the cooler line connection secondary latches.

4. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

   Remove the transmission cooler line connection clips and disconnect the rear transmission fluid cooler tubes from the front transmission fluid cooler tubes.

5. Remove the bolts and the underbody shield.

6. Remove the starter. Refer to: Starter Motor
7. Remove the RH and LH catalytic converters. Refer to: Catalytic Converter LH
8. Remove the driveshaft. Refer to: Driveshaft
9. Drain the transmission fluid. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill 
10. Remove the rear transmission fluid cooler tubes bracket retainers.

11. Remove the rear transmission fluid cooler tube bracket retainers, disconnect the starter harness pushpin and remove the bracket.

12. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Remove the bolts and the rear transmission fluid cooler tubes.

13. 1. Disconnect the ISS sensor.
    2. Detach the HO2S sensor connector from the transmission.
    3. Detach the harness push type retainers from the transmission.

14. Disconnect the bulkhead connector by turning counter clockwise, the connector by releasing the lock on top of the connector and detach the harness push type retainer.

15. Position the trans jack and support the transmission with a strap. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

16. Remove the transmission support retainers and the transmission support.

17. Remove the bottom transmission stud bolts.

18. Lower the transmission jack to access the top of the transmission. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

19. Remove the park release cable retainers, detach the park release cable push type retainers, detach the cable end from the park release lever and position the park release cable aside.

20. 1. Disconnect the bulk head connector by turn it counter clockwise.
    2. Disconnect the park position sensor.
    3. Disconnect the shaft speed sensors.
    4. Detach the harness push type retainers.

21. Disconnect the transmission vent and position aside.

22. Remove the transmission harness retainer and position the harness aside.
