Pinpoint Test C : No Power In On

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

  1. C1 PERFORM A NETWORK TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the network test.

    Does the IPC pass the network test? 

    Yes  GO to  C2
    No  DIAGNOSE a network communication concern. REFER to: Communications Network .
  2. C2 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH (IGN_SW_RUN) PID (PARAMETER IDENTIFICATION)

    • Ignition ON.

    • NOTE: It may be necessary to use a tear tag or PCM part number to start a vehicle session on the diagnostic scan tool.

      Using a diagnostic scan tool, view BCM Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, monitor the BCM PID IGN_SW_RUN.

    Does the PID indicate Active? 

    Yes  GO to  C5
    No  GO to  C3
  3. C3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE)

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect BCM C2280C.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  C18
    No  GO to  C4
  4. C4 CHECK THE IGNITION ON-DESIGNATED INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Ignition Switch C250.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to: Ignition Switch .
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. C5 CHECK WINDSHIELD WIPER OPERATION

    • Observe the windshield wipers while placing the wiper/washer switch to the low speed and then off position.

    Do the windshield wipers operate? 

    Yes  GO to  C6
    No  GO to  C12
  6. C6 CHECK THE AUXILIARY IGNITION RELAY

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Auxiliary Ignition Relay.

    • Substitute a known good relay.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Check the operation of the front heated seats, the power sunshade, the parking aid system or the side obstacle detection system.

    Does the system now operate? 

    Yes  REMOVE the known good relay. INSTALL a new auxiliary ignition relay.
    No  REMOVE the known good relay. GO to  C7
  7. C7 CHECK THE AUXILIARY IGNITION RELAY COIL VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:

      Wagon

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  C8
    No  VERIFY the high current fuse 6 (70A) (wagon) or the BJB fuse 30 (5A) (van) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  8. C8 CHECK THE AUXILIARY IGNITION RELAY BATTERY SUPPLIED VOLTAGE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  C9
    No  REPAIR the circuit.

    • Ignition ON.

    Does the system now operate? 

    Yes  REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to  C10
    No  REMOVE the fused jumper wire. REPAIR the circuit.
  10. C10 CHECK THE AUXILIARY IGNITION RELAY COIL CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect BCM C2280B.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Measure:

      Wagon

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  C11

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  C18

  12. C12 CHECK THE IGNITION RELAY

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Ignition Relay.

    • Substitute a known good relay.

    • Ignition ON.

    • Observe the windshield wipers while placing the wiper/washer switch to the low speed and then off position.

    Do the windshield wipers operate? 

    Yes  REMOVE the known good relay. INSTALL a new ignition relay.
    No  REMOVE the known good relay. GO to  C13
  13. C13 CHECK THE IGNITION RELAY COIL VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  C14
    No  VERIFY the high current fuse 3 (100A) and the BJB fuse 23 (5A) are OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit for an open. If not OK, REFER to OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  14. C14 CHECK THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) CONTROL OF THE IGNITION RELAY COIL CIRCUIT

    NOTE: The following pinpoint test step uses a test lamp to simulate normal circuit loads. Use only a Rotunda Test Lamp (SGT27000) or 250-300mA incandescent bulb test lamp. To avoid connector terminal damage, use the Rotunda Flex Probe kit for the test lamp probe connection to the vehicle. Do not use the test lamp probe directly on any connector.

    • Connect:

    • Ignition ON.

    Does the test lamp illuminate? 

    Yes  DISCONNECT the test lamp. GO to  C15
    No  DISCONNECT the test lamp. GO to  C16
  15. C15 CHECK THE IGNITION RELAY BJB (BATTERY JUNCTION BOX) SUPPLIED VOLTAGE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  REPAIR the ignition relay output circuit (CDC21 (GY/BN)) for an open.
    No  REPAIR the ignition relay BJB voltage supply circuit (SDC02 (RD)) for an open.
  16. C16 CHECK THE IGNITION RELAY COIL CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect BCM C2280D.

    • Connect:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REMOVE the fused jumper wire. REPAIR the circuit.
    No  REMOVE the fused jumper wire. GO to  C17
  17. C17 CHECK THE IGNITION RELAY COIL CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Measure:

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  C18
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  18. C18 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Disconnect and inspect all the BCM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the BCM connectors and make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, Refer to BCM Guided Routine Testing .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
