Self-Diagnostic System

NOTE: It is also possible to retrieve instrument cluster DTCs using instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - MUSTANG article.

Connect New Generation Star (NGS) or Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), located beneath instrument panel. Using NGS/WDS tester, perform data link diagnostics test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - MUSTANG article. If NGS/WDS tester responds with CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70=ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, repair module communications concern. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - MUSTANG article. If NGS/WDS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for instrument cluster, perform TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under SYSTEM TESTS.

If NGS/WDS tester responds with SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record continuous DTCs. Erase continuous DTCs. Using NGS/WDS tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. Perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTC INDEX table. Codes listed in this table is only for testing covered in this article. For complete DTC listing, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - MUSTANG article. If no DTCs are retrieved, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
