Pinpoint Test BC: The Parking Aid Is Inoperative

CAUTION:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- BC1 CHECK THE RECORDED DTCS FROM THE PARKING AID MODULE SELF-TEST
- Key in OFF position.
- Connect the diagnostic tool.
- Key in ON position.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the diagnostic tool: Parking Aid Module Self-Test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?
- Yes
: If DTC C1700 or C1703 GO to BC2.
If DTC C1984, GO to BC6.
If DTC B1299, GO to BC10.
If DTC B2844, GO to BC12.
If DTC C1985, GO to BC13.
If DTC B1627, GO to BC15.
If DTC C1992, GO to BC23.
- No
: If audio unit does not mute when parking aid warning sounds, GO to BC18.
If audio unit does mute when parking aid warning sounds, GO to BC26.
- BC2 CHECK POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT
- Key in ON position.
- Transmission in reverse.
- Measure the voltage between the parking aid module C4014a-13, circuit 7-GN1 (YE/RD), component side with the connector connected and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 8 volts?
- Yes : GO to BC4.
- No : GO to BC3.
- BC3 CHECK POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014a.
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014a-13, circuit 7-GN1 (YE/RD), harness side and the suspect parking aid sensor C4192-3 (LH), circuit 7-GN20 (YE/RD), harness side or C4193-3 (RH), circuit 7-GN19 (YE), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to BC27.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC4 CHECK SIGNAL RETURN CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014a.
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014a-3, circuit 9-GN1 (BN/RD), harness side and the suspect parking aid sensor C4192-2 (LH), circuit 9-GN20 (BN/RD), harness side or C4193-2 (RH), circuit 9-GN19 (BN), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to BC5.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC5 CHECK SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the suspect parking aid sensor and the parking aid module, harness side; and measure the resistance between the suspect parking aid sensor, harness side and ground.PARKING AID MODULE AND SENSOR CIRCUIT REFERENCE
Parking Aid Module Parking Aid Sensor Circuit C4014a-7 C4193-1 8-GN19 (WH) C4014a-6 C4192-1 8-GN20 (WH/RD) - Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the parking aid sensor and the parking aid module and greater than 10,000 ohms between the parking aid sensor and ground?
- Yes : INSTALL a new parking aid sensor. REFER to PARKING AID SENSOR . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- Measure the resistance between the suspect parking aid sensor and the parking aid module, harness side; and measure the resistance between the suspect parking aid sensor, harness side and ground.
- BC6 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-GN21 (YE/BU) FOR POWER
- Key in ON position.
- Transmission in reverse.
- Measure the voltage between the parking aid module C4014a-14, circuit 7-GN21 (YE/BU), component side with the connector connected and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 8 volts?
- Yes : GO to BC8.
- No : GO to BC7.
- BC7 CHECK CIRCUIT 7-GN21 (YE/BU) FOR OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014a.
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid sensor C4191-4, circuit 7-GN21 (YE/BU), harness side and the parking aid module C4014a-14, circuit 7-GN21 (YE/BU), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to BC27.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC8 CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-GN21 (BK/OG) FOR OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014a.
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014a-4, circuit 31S-GN21 (BK/OG), harness side and the parking aid sensor C4191-3, circuit 31S-GN21 (BK/OG), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to BC9.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC9 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN21 (WH/BU) FOR OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid sensor C4191-2, circuit 8-GN21 (WH/BU), harness side and the parking aid module C4014a-16, circuit 8-GN21 (WH/BU), harness side; and measure the resistance between the parking aid sensor C4191-2, circuit 8-GN21 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the parking aid sensor and the parking aid module and greater than 10,000 ohms between the parking aid sensor and ground?
- Yes : INSTALL a new parking aid sensor. REFER to PARKING AID SENSOR . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC10 CHECK POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014a.
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014a-13, circuit 7-GN1 (YE/RD), harness side and ground; and measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014a-14, circuit 7-GN21 (YE/BU), harness side and ground.
- Is each resistance between 0 and 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to BC11.
- No : GO to BC27.
- BC11 CHECK POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN PARKING AID SENSOR
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014a-13, circuit 7-GN1 (YE/RD), harness side and ground while disconnecting the LH and RH parking aid sensors.
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014a-14, circuit 7-GN21 (YE/BU), harness side and ground while disconnecting the center parking aid sensor.
- Does the resistance change to greater than 5 ohms after disconnecting the suspect parking aid sensor(s)?
- Yes : INSTALL the new parking aid sensor(s) in question. REFER to PARKING AID SENSOR . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC12 CHECK CIRCUIT 20-GN10 (PK/YE) FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014b.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the parking aid module C4014b-12, circuit 20-GN10 (PK/YE), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to BC27.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC13 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN12 (WH/BU) FOR SHORT
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014b.
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-9, circuit 8-GN12 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to BC27.
- No : GO to BC14.
- BC14 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN12 (WH/BU) FOR SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Parking Aid Switch C9011.
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-9, circuit 8-GN12 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : INSTALL a new parking aid switch. REFER to PARKING AID SWITCH .
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC15 CHECK REVERSE LAMPS OPERATION
- Key in ON position.
- Place the transmission in REVERSE.
- Check the reverse lamps operation.
- Do the reverse lamps illuminate?
- Yes : GO to BC16.
- No : REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING .
- BC16 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN11 (WH/RD) FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014b.
- Key in ON position.
- Place the transmission in REVERSE.
- Measure the voltage between the parking aid module C4014b-11, circuit 8-GN11 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to BC27.
- No : GO to BC17.
- BC17 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN11 (WH/RD) FOR OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: REM C420b.
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-11, circuit 8-GN11 (WH/RD), harness side and the REM C420b-4, circuit 8-AD15 (WH/BU), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to BC28.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC18 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN17 (WH/RD) FOR SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014b.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the parking aid module C4014b-3, circuit 8-GN17 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage indicated?
- Yes : GO to BC19.
- No : GO to BC20.
- BC19 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN17 (WH/RD) FOR SHORT TO VOLTAGE IN AUDIO UNIT
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Audio Unit C290b (DM100i) or C240c (CDX6) or C2253a (Navigation Audio Unit).
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the parking aid module C4014b-3, circuit 8-GN17 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage indicated?
- Yes : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- No : REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized Ford audio system repair facility. REFER to ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- BC20 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN17 (WH/RD) FOR SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-3, circuit 8-GN17 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to BC22.
- No : GO to BC21.
- BC21 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN17 (WH/RD) FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN RADIO
- Disconnect: Audio Unit C290b (DM100i) or C240c (CDX6) or C2253a (Navigation Audio Unit).
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-3, circuit 8-GN17 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized Ford audio system repair facility. REFER to ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC22 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN17 (WH/RD) FOR OPEN
- Disconnect: Audio Unit C290b (DM100i) or C240c (CDX6) or C2253a (Navigation Audio Unit).
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-3, circuit 8-GN17 (WH/RD), harness side and the audio unit connector, harness side.CONNECTOR PIN CIRCUIT REFERENCE
Connector and Pin Circuit C290b-20 (DM100i) 8-GN17 (WH/RD) C240c-1 (CDX6) 8-GN17 (WH/RD) C2253a-20 (Navigation Audio Unit) 8-GN17 (WH/RD) - Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to BC27.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC23 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN14 (WH/BK) FOR SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Parking Aid Module C4014b.
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-8, circuit 8-GN14 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : GO to BC25.
- No : GO to BC24.
- BC24 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN14 (WH/BK) FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN ABS MODULE
- Disconnect: ABS C155.
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-8, circuit 8-GN14 (WH/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK CONTROL . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC25 CHECK CIRCUIT 8-GN14 (WH/BK) FOR OPEN
- Disconnect: ABS C155.
- Measure the resistance between the parking aid module C4014b-8, circuit 8-GN14 (WH/BK), harness side and the ABS C155-39 with stability assist or C155-6 without stability assist, circuit 8-GN14 (WH/BK), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- Yes : GO to BC27.
- No : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC26 CHECK PARKING AID MODULE SENSORS FOR CORRECT ALIGNMENT NOTE: If the vehicle has been in an accident, the parking aid module sensors may not be aligned correctly.
- Check the bumper for correct alignment, refer to ELEVATION SYSTEM CHECK .
- Check the parking aid sensor(s) and bezel(s) for correct adjustment. Refer to AZIMUTH SYSTEM CHECK (Minimum Detectable Object Verification).
- Are the bumper and parking aid sensors correctly aligned?
- Yes : GO to BC27.
- No : INSTALL a new bumper. REFER to EXTERIOR TRIM . If the vehicle has been in an accident, further body work may be required to bring the parking aid sensors into correct alignment.
- BC27 CHECK FOR CORRECT PARKING AID MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect all the parking aid module connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the parking aid module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new parking aid module. REFER to PARKING AID MODULE . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- BC28 CHECK FOR CORRECT REM OPERATION
- Disconnect all the REM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the REM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new REM. REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
