Using Scan Tool

  1. For preliminary testing, see TROUBLE SHOOTING . If problem is not found, connect NGS tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Perform data link diagnostic test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - F150 PICKUP article. If NGS tester displays CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, diagnose and repair module concern. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - F150 PICKUP article. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for HEC, perform TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH HYBRID ELECTRONIC CLUSTER  in SYSTEM TESTS. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for GEM/CTM, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - F150 PICKUP .
  2. If NGS tester displays SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record continuous DTCs. Erase continuous DTCs. Perform self-test for HEC and GEM/CTM. If DTCs are related to concern reset, see HYBRID ELECTRONIC CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  or GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE/CENTRAL TIMER MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  tables. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS. (2) Clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Repeat self-test. If DTC resets, replace instrument cluster. Clear DTCs and retest system.

(2) Replace Generic Electronic Module/Central Timer Module (GEM/CTM). See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE/CENTRAL TIMER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Clear diagnostic trouble codes and perform GEM self-test.
