Test H: Safety Belt Indicator Does Not Operate Correctly (Chime Okay)

NOTE:
All F150 Pickups with 4-wheel drive, and/or power windows, are equipped with a Generic Electronic Module (GEM). F150 2-wheel drive pickups without power windows are equipped with Central Timer Module (CTM).
NOTE:
After making any repairs, clear DTCs and perform self-test.
- If vehicle is equipped with Generic Electronic Module (GEM), go to next step. If vehicle is equipped with Central Timer Module (CTM), go to step 5.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe GEM PID SBLTLMP while toggling active command SBLTLIGHT OFF and ON. If PID does not display OFF---, ON---, go to next step. If GEM PID SBLTLMP displays OFF---, ON---, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin Gray harness connector C201a. GEM is located on back side of central junction box, under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If safety belt indicator stays on continuously, go to next step. If safety belt indicator does not stay on, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C220b. Measure resistance between ground and GEM 26-pin harness connector C220b terminal No. 12 (Dark Green/Light Green wire). See Figure. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to step 8. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Light Green wire between instrument cluster and GEM.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe CTM PID SBLTLMP while toggling active command SBLTLIGHT OFF and ON. If PID displays OFF---, ON---, go to next step. If PID does not display OFF---, ON---, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect CTM 26-pin harness connector C201a. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If safety belt indicator stays on continuously, go to next step. If safety belt indicator does not stay on, go to step 8.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C220b. Measure resistance between ground and CTM 26-pin harness connector C201a terminal No. 12 (Dark Green/Light Green wire). See Figure. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to step 9. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Dark Green/Light Green wire between instrument cluster and CTM.
- Disconnect all GEM/CTM harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all GEM/CTM harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace GEM/CTM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE/CENTRAL TIMER MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and perform self-test.
- Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and perform self-test.
