Test I: Door Ajar Indicator Inoperative (Chime Okay)

NOTE: All F150 Pickups with 4-wheel drive, and/or power windows, are equipped with a Generic Electronic Module (GEM). F150 2-wheel drive pickups without power windows are equipped with Central Timer Module (CTM).
NOTE: After making any repairs, clear DTCs and perform self-test.
  1. If vehicle is equipped with Generic Electronic Module (GEM), go to next step. If vehicle is equipped with Central Timer Module (CTM), go to step  7.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe GEM PID DRAJAR while toggling active command AJAR LIGHT OFF and ON. If GEM PID DRAJAR displays OFF---, ON---, go to step  11. If PID displays OFFO-G, go to next step. If PID displays OFF-B, go to step  5.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201a. GEM is located on back side of central junction box, under left side of instrument panel. Connect fused jumper wire (5-amp) between GEM harness connector C201a terminal No. 9 (Dark Green/Orange wire) and ground. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If DOOR AJAR indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If DOOR AJAR indicator illuminates, go to step  11.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C220b. Measure resistance in Dark Green/Orange wire between instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C220b terminal No. 5 and GEM 26-pin harness connector C201a terminal No. 9. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step  12. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Green/Orange wire between instrument cluster and GEM.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C220b. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe GEM PID DRAJAR while toggling active command AJAR LIGHT OFF and ON. If PID displays ON-B-, go to next step. If PID does not display ON-B-, go to step  12.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM harness connector C201a. Measure voltage between ground and GEM 26-pin harness connector C201a terminal No. 9 (Dark Green/Orange wire). See Figure. If any voltage exists, repair short to power in Dark Green/Orange wire between instrument cluster and GEM. If voltage does not exist, go to step  11.
  7. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe CTM PID DRAJAR while toggling active command AJAR LIGHT OFF and ON. If PID displays OFF---, ON---, go to next step. If PID does not display OFF---, ON---, go to step  11.
  8. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C220b and 20-pin harness connector C220a. Measure internal resistance between terminal No. 5 of instrument cluster connector C220b (component side) and terminal No. 11 at 20-pin connector C220a. See Fig 1. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to step  12.
  9. Disconnect CTM 26-pin harness connector C201a. Measure resistance in Dark Green/Orange wire between terminal No. 5 at instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C220b and terminal No. 9 at CTM 26-pin harness connector C201a. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Green/Orange wire between instrument cluster and CTM.
  10. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C220b terminal No. 5 (Dark Green/Orange wire). If voltage does not exist, go to next step. If any voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Dark Green/Orange wire between instrument cluster and voltage.
  11. Disconnect all GEM/CTM harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all GEM/CTM harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace GEM/CTM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE/CENTRAL TIMER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and perform self-test.
  12. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect harness connectors for corrosion and pushed out pins. Connect all instrument cluster harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system and verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and perform self-test.
