Removal Procedure

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Fuel Pressure Relief
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-134a)Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf)
  3. Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)
  4. Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  5. Remove Battery Tray Battery Tray Replacement

  29. Remove the intermediate shaft pinch bolt (1), then disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering gear. Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (Equinox)Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (Terrain) .

  32. Remove the front lower control arm ball stud nuts (1) then disconnect the lower control arms from the steering knuckles. Lower Control Arm Replacement (Equinox)Lower Control Arm Replacement (Terrain) .

  36. Disconnect the range selector lever cable terminal from the transmission manual shift lever.
  37. NOTE:

    During the powertrain removal support the vehicle body by placing a jack at the rear of the vehicle.

  38. Position an engine support table under the powertrain assembly.
  39. Blocks of wood can be used between the front of the frame and the oil pan to table in order to level the powertrain during the removal.
  40. With the table positioned, fully raise the table to contact with the powertrain assembly.

  42. Remove Engine Mount Bolt (1) - Engine Mount Replacement 
  43. Remove Transmission Mount - Transmission Mount Replacement (Left Side M3U)Transmission Mount Replacement (Left Side M3D/M3H)
  44. NOTE:

    Remove ONLY the body to frame bolts as the powertrain will be removed while still bolted to the frame.

  45. Remove the frame to body bolts. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (Front Wheel Drive)Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (All Wheel Drive) .
  46. Disconnect electrical connectors as necessary.
  47. Carefully lower the engine table and raise the body on the hoist until the engine/transaxle and frame are separated from the vehicle.
  48. Separate the engine from the transaxle. Transmission Replacement (Front Wheel Drive)Transmission Replacement (All Wheel Drive)
  49. Install the engine to a suitable engine stand.
