Removal Procedure
- Battery Tray Replacement - Remove
- Range Selector Lever Cable Bracket Replacement - Remove
- Raise and support the vehicle. - Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Underbody Brace Replacement - Front - Remove
- Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill - Drain
- Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement - Remove
- Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Hose Replacement - Remove
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe Replacement @Transmission - Disconnect
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe Replacement @Transmission - Disconnect
- Plug and/or cap the pipes and the transmission to prevent contamination.
- Remove the transmission vent hose.
Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Clip(1) - Remove
- Disconnect the transmission electrical connector (3).
- Remove the transmission wiring harness retainer (2).
Loosen the 2 retainers (1) of the generator and starter cable conduit.
Remove the generator and starter cable conduit bolt (2).
- Loosen the 2 retainers (3, 4) of the generator and starter cable.
- Position the generator and starter cable (1) aside.
Remove the 3 transmission upper bolts (1).
- NOTE:
Graphic shows the vehicle front without bumper for the sake of clarity.
Secure the radiator (2) to the front end upper tie bar, using 2 lashing straps (1).
- Install the EN-28467-B support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture .
- Raise the vehicle.
- Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement - Remove
- Disconnect the left front wheel drive shaft from the transmission. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side . The drive shaft remains in the wheel hub.
Secure the left drive shaft (1) to the hoist (3), using a lashing strap (2).
- Disconnect the right front wheel drive shaft from the front wheel intermediate shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side . The drive shaft remains in the wheel hub.
Secure the right drive shaft (2) to the hoist (1), using a lashing strap (3).
- Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Replacement - Remove
- Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Rear - Remove
- Transmission Front Mount Replacement - Remove
- Starter Replacement - Remove
Loosen the torque converter from the flexplate.
- Turn the engine at the crankshaft pulley (2) clockwise with a socket wrench (3) until a torque converter bolt (1) shows up.
- Remove and DISCARD the torque converter bolt (1).
- Turn the engine at the crankshaft pulley clockwise 120 degrees.
- Remove and DISCARD the next torque converter bolt.
- Repeat the previous 2 steps to remove the 3rd (last) torque converter bolt.
- Lower the vehicle.
Apply tension to the hooks (1) of the EN-28467-B support fixture.
- Transmission Mount Bolt(2) - Remove and DISCARD[3x]
- Lower the engine/transmission unit about 5 cm (2 in) with the EN-28467-B support fixture to allow clearance for removal of the transmission.
- Raise the vehicle.
Remove the transmission front lower nut (1).
- Remove the transmission lower bolt (2).
Remove the transmission lower bolt (2).
- Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
- Remove the transmission rear bolt (1).
- Remove the transmission converter cover (3).
- NOTE:
This is the last transmission bolt.
Remove the transmission front upper bolt (1).
- Separate the transmission from the engine.
- Lower the transmission with the transmission jack far enough to remove the transmission.
Ensure the torque converter remains securely in place on the transmission input shaft while separating and removing the transmission.
