Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Buick Cascada, 2018 Buick Cascada, and 2017 Buick Cascada. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Transfer components as necessary.
  2. If the removed transmission will be reinstalled, clean the 3 threads of the torque converter.
  3. Raise the transmission with the transmission jack and position the transmission to the engine.

    Install the transmission front upper bolt (1), and hand tighten only.

  5. GM4248457

    Install the transmission converter cover (3).

  6. Install the transmission rear bolt (1).
  7. Tighten the transmission front upper bolt and the transmission rear bolt a first pass to 10 N.m (89 lb in), in order to align the transmission and the engine flush.
  8. Tighten the transmission front upper bolt and the transmission rear bolt a final pass to 58 N.m (43 lb ft)
  9. Remove the transmission jack.
  10. Install the transmission lower bolt (2) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).

    Install the transmission lower bolt (2) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).

  12. Install the transmission front lower nut (1) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).

    Install the torque converter to the flexplate.

    1. Turn the engine at the crankshaft pulley (2) clockwise with a socket wrench (3) until a torque converter bolt hole shows up.
    2. NOTE:

      Service may offer bolts without microencapsulated thread locking adhesive. If this is the case, apply thread locking adhesive to the bolt.If fasteners are microencapsulated, install NEW torque converter to flywheel bolts. DO NOT reuse the old bolts.

    3. Install a NEW torque converter bolt (1) and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).
    4. Turn the engine at the crankshaft pulley clockwise 120 degrees.
    5. Install the next NEW torque converter bolt and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).
    6. Repeat the previous 2 steps to install the 3rd (last) torque converter bolt.
    7. Starter Replacement - Install
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Raise the engine/transmission unit into original position, using the EN-28467-B  support fixture.

    Transmission Mount Bolt(2) - Install and tighten[3x]

    1. First Pass: 50 N.m (37 lb ft)
    2. Final Pass: 60 - 75 degrees, use the EN-45059  meter
  17. Engine Support Fixture - Remove
  18. Transmission Front Mount Replacement  - Install
  19. Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Rear  - Install
  20. Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Replacement - Install

    Remove the right drive shaft (2) from the hoist (1).

  22. Connect the right front wheel drive shaft to the front wheel intermediate shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side .

    Remove the left drive shaft (1) from the hoist (3).

  24. Connect the left front wheel drive shaft to the transmission. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side .
  25. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement - Install
  26. Lower the vehicle.

    NOTE:

    Graphic shows the vehicle front without bumper for the sake of clarity.

    Loosen the radiator (2) from the front end upper tie bar.

    Install the 3 transmission upper bolts (1) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).

    Position the generator and starter cable (1) into original position.

  30. Install the 2 retainers (3, 4) of the generator and starter cable.
  31. Install the generator and starter cable conduit bolt (2) and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

    Install the 2 retainers (1) of the generator and starter cable conduit.

    Install the transmission wiring harness retainer (2).

  34. Connect the transmission wiring harness connector (3).
  35. Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe Clip(1) - Install
  36. Install the transmission vent hose.
  37. Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe Replacement - Install
  38. Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe Replacement - Install
  39. Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Hose Replacement - Install
  40. Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement - Install
  41. Range Selector Lever Cable Bracket Replacement  - Install
  42. Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment  - Adjust
  43. Battery Tray Replacement - Install
  44. Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill  - Fill
  45. Underbody Brace Replacement - Front - Install
  46. Lower the vehicle.
  47. If a NEW TCM has been installed into the vehicle, the NEW module needs to be reprogrammed. Refer to Control Module References .
  48. NOTE:

    The Transmission Adaptive Values Learn procedure must be performed when one of the following repairs have been made to the vehicle. Failure to perform the procedure after one of the following repairs may result in poor transmission performance, as well as transmission DTCs being set:

    • Transmission internal service/overhaul
    • Valve body repair or replacement
    • Control solenoid valve assembly replacement
    • TCM software/calibration update
    • Any service in response to a shift quality concern
