Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 Chevrolet Malibu. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation hose/pipe/tube. Refer to Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose/Pipe/Tube Replacement (LKW) .
  2. Remove the oil level indicator (3). Inspect and replace the oil indicator O-ring seals (4), if necessary.

  3. Remove the camshaft cover heat shield (2) and bolts (1).
  4. Remove the ignition coils. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement .
  5. Disconnect vacuum booster pipe (1).

  6. Remove the vacuum assembly (1). Refer to Vacuum Pump Replacement .

  7. Remove the camshaft position actuator intake (1) solenoid valve. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Intake Solenoid Valve Replacement

  8. Remove the camshaft position actuator exhaust (2) solenoid valve. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Exhaust Solenoid Valve Replacement
  9. Remove the wiring harness bracket fastener (1) then reposition the bracket (2).

    NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the wiring harness from the bracket. Reposition the bracket away from the camshaft cover once the fastener is removed.
  10. Camshaft Cover Bolt (1)»Remove [4x]

    NOTE: Note the location of the four long camshaft cover bolts (1) for proper installation.
  11. Camshaft Cover Washer (2)»Remove
    NOTE: Inspect for damage and replace as needed.
  12. Camshaft Cover Bolt (3)»Remove [19x]
  13. Camshaft Cover (4)»Remove
  14. Camshaft Cover Gasket (1)»Remove and DISCARD

  15. If reinstalling the camshaft cover (2), clean and inspect as needed. Refer to Camshaft Cleaning and Inspection (LKW)
